He is the famous “Teddy” and he was the 26th president of the United States. Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt was in office from September 14, 1901 – March 4, 1909. He had assumed office under McKinley when he died, and then the next election with 336 electoral votes and 7,628, 461 popular votes. He was a part of the republican party, The Republican Party is one of the two major contemporary political parties in the United States, along with the Democratic Party. It is often referred to as the Grand Old Party or the GOP. Founded in 1854 by anti-slavery expansion activists and modernizers, It first came to power in 1860 with the election of Abraham Lincoln to the presidency and presided over the American Civil War and Reconstruction. He did not have a vice president for his first term because he assumed office. During his second term, the vice president was Charles Warren Fairbanks. During his presidency, John M. Hay, Elihu Root and Robert Bacon were secretaries of state. Lyman J. Gage Leslie M. Shaw George B. Cortelyou were secretaries of treasury. Elihu Root, William H. Taft and Luke E. Wright were secretaries of war. Philander C. Knox, William H. Moody and Charles J. Bonaparte were attorney generals. George B. Cortelyou and George von L. Meyer were postmaster generals. James D. Long, William H. Moody, Paul Morton, Charles J. Bonaparte, Victor H. Metcalf and Truman H. Newberry were secretaries of navy. Ethan A. Hitchcock and James R. Garfield were secretaries of interior. James Wilson was secretary of agriculture. And George B. Cortelyou, Victor H. Metcalf and Oscar S. Straus were secretaries of commerce and labor. He also appointed Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., William Rufus Day, and William Henry Moody to be judges in the Supreme Court.
