The violence that Mark faces at home is so constant that he doesn’t think it anything when he threatens to kill his father because he beats him constantly. Jacksons violent nature causes a wall to be built up between him and his son. This wall is slowly torn down as Mark realizes he actually loves his father and that his father loves him. “ Pangs of hunger melted my resentment of my father away, and now that he was gone I longed night and day for his return... as I saw other children in the company of their fathers, I would cry. “ ( 6,8 ).
While Wilson is on his way to see Mr. Carson, we learn that he is very hungry and hasn’t eaten in days. He says that if the other servants would have known that, they would have generously given him an abundant amount of food. He also tells the reader that like him, the servants’ hunger and cravings have turned into a numb “sickness”. Gaskell is not being objective nor trying to make fun of the way society was at that time. She is
Jess isn’t safe at school, nobody wants to talk to him and he was terribly raped by school football players. Jess wasn’t safe while working in the factory, because everybody wanted to find something from him and tease him as a joke. The time they found he had “close relationship” with another female worker, Jess was asked to leave the factory. Jess was always the target of police men when they wash up gay bars. First, the main type of abuse is physical. Physical abuse happens everywhere, but mostly in a married, and or a teenage relationship. Men that are being physically abused are actually common in this day and age. The worst part of the man being hit and beaten in a relationship is the part that they can’t do anything back, because if they do they will be the ones going to jail. The fact is that the stereo type of the men always beating and abusing the wives and women has put the guys in a bad spot.
As he grew older, Pickton frequently skipped school to stay home on the farm. Robert’s father was not involved in raising the children; he was known to be emotionally abusive towards Robert, causing Robert to feel neglected. His mother, Louise, might have done the best she knew how to, but she was apparently eccentric and tough on her children. It is said that Robert was very close to his mother. Louise was workaholic who ran the family meat business, she supervised the kids and expected them to put in long hours slopping pigs and looking after other animals, even on school days.
The Ewells were known for being rude and inconsiderate. Mayella’s father, Robert, didn’t care much for his children and was always drunk. Atticus suspected him of beating Mayella and for forcing her to frame Tom Robinson. Atticus suspected this of him because in the courtroom he asked Mr. Ewell to write out his name. His dominant hand is his left and Mayella was struck on the right side of her face, which makes perfect sense.
He portrays the difficulties of migrant workers and their families with the Joad family. “The water grew scarce, water was to be bought, five cents, ten cents, fifteen cents a gallon.” (pg. 274). The okies usually had little to no money in their name making it hard for them to feed their families and even themselves. This conflict usually led to dehydration or starvation which led to the depression of losing a loved one.
I could not keep my eyes that book the suspense was killing me. “The Gun” was about this kid name Tyray that was known at his school as the biggest bully in Bluford High. Until this kid name Darrell, two times smaller than him, beat him in front of the whole school and then his reputation was ruined. So desperate to settle the score and regain his respect, Tyray decided to get a gun to get his revenge because his hand was too broken to fight him again. This book was so interesting to me because it is a scenario that can occur in
