Thelma and Louise- Paragraph One Texts that deal with aspects of growing up or transition into new phases of life and the broader world. This is evident in the 1991 film Thelma and Louise, directed by Ridley Scott. The film explores the live of the two main characters Thelma and Louise and their journey to leave their boring and mundane lifestyles of being pressured by there husbands, stressed out with work and stuck in there daily routines. Both Thelma and Louise crave for more thrilling and exciting lifestyle, and therefore decide to leave their lives behind for the weekend and pursue an exciting and meaningful vacation together. The idea that growing up and transitioning through new phases of life and the broader world is evident when Thelma and Louise decide to break out of their repetitive and ordinary lifestyles choosing to venture fourth in order to gain new experiences. This is evident through the medium close up shot of the car driving up the hill, whilst the girls are screaming and cheering in the back enthusiastically and eagerly to begin their journey away from the norm. With the directors incorporation of bright colours, the joyful non diegetic music and the girls delighted and vibrant facial expressions work together to emphasises there initial phases of going out into the world. In addition both Thelma and Louise take their development and shift through a new phase of life to more extreme levels at the end of the film. Thelma and Louise are stuck in a situation of life and death, thus decide to keep running from the police as they drive their car over the cliff. The use of the low angle shot of the car in the air, highlighting both Thelma and Louise’s new established feelings of the control and hope as they transition to a new unknown phases of there life.
