However, though the central topic of her essay may be boring, Zacharias is an excellent writer. She uses pathos, arrangement and logos well to describe her relationship with her father and buzzards. I found pathos everywhere. I felt pathos in the first sentence: “They woof” (260). Zacharias used this line to catch the reader’s attention, which also plays into her chosen arrangement for this piece, and to get some sort of emotion out of the reader.
Pathos shows how the product is satisfying Queen Latifah by her emotions in the ad. Anne, unlike many women of her time, was well educated and it is presumed that she had access to the Earl’s vast library during this time. The Earl’s residence was known for its romantic background and this proved true in 1628 when Anne and Simon married. She was only sixteen to his twenty-five years but they were known to have a happy marriage as evidenced in “To my Dear and Loving Husband” where Bradstreet laments. Though Bradstreet accepted the tenets of Puritanism, anti-Puritan texts are found in her poetry in terms of religious doubts as in “Meditations” to her children where she speculates if the Scriptures are true or contrived. Anne Bradstreet also deviates from traditional Puritan writings of the time by composing poetry for pleasure and self expression as opposed to writings of preaching and teaching as was the standard.
I love obvious and in fact simple sentences like “love is more beneficial than hate“. I mean everybody knows that love is more beneficial than hate, but she uses such statements, because they are easy to understand and therefore they aren‘t hard to remember and you keep them in mind. It emphasizes the importance of love as the number one thing for a peaceful life. In this paragraph she also talks about forgiveness and charity. Terrible things happened to her, especially in her childhood.
Significance to the story: Teak Cake is significant to this novel because he helps with Janie’s self- development. She views Tea Cake as a sense of freedom and independence; she can truly be herself in his presence. For example, when they first meet, she prompts her to play chess, a game that she was never allowed to play in her past. Tea Cake successfully fulfills her yearnings of having a relationship representative of the pear tree. Both book and movie capture good moments and ideas of Esquivel. I would say the book was more entertaining and memorable for me. The novel never rests or drags on, and although it evolves around many tragedies a dying love and lovers, in the end you truly feel happy for the way things turn to be. So does the movie, the end of it is very powerful, I might have not got attached to its characters but I fell in love with the magical fairy tale and romance of Like Water For Chocolate. The excerpt from Like Water for Chocolate, by Laura Esquivel exposes the uncanny scenario of Rosaura and Pedro’s wedding, and the sudden nostalgia everyone is revealing.
People, places and things are the nouns, substance, value and quality are the adjectives, spirituality and God are the verb action these particular subjects are just a few of the things from which happiness is produced. I think Mr. Powell gave answer of interest which stem from being in the midst of a few difficult trials which in returns made him the person that he describes himself to be, one whom has grown to be content with circumstance. This assignment has expanded my outlook on lots of things especially the importance of our topic, happiness. This topic is more than needed in every human being’s life as a whole. Once again being a spiritual woman I must add that the word of God says that if we acknowledge God in all of our ways he shall direct our paths.
So far, I like this method of narration very much, because it offers two points of view; how child Chiyo and adult Chiyo feel about a circumstance. I find the geisha to be very intriguing, as Chiyo has not yet fully explained what they are. I am looking forward to the inevitable point in the novel when Chiyo takes us along and exposes exactly what the life of a geisha is like. There are many people who have effected me in a positive way throughout my life; however my eighth grade English teacher Ms.Gentilini had a outstanding positive effect on me. Mustafa Kemal Ataturk once said, “A good teacher is like a candle it consumes itself to light the way for others.” Ms.Gentilini was not any ordinary English teacher. She taught us many writing skills that I still use today. She always kept her students interested, and made them want to learn more. She has a compelling voice I will never forget .I remember Ms.Gentilini being a dedicated ,motivating, patient and intelligent person that challenged me to better myself every day.
After reading the book, I began to find out that Suzie and I are somewhat alike in a few ways. Suzie is a bit of a goodie-goodie, and is family oriented and cares about her family and friends. But, she is more focused and is a hyper-romantic and focused kind of girl. Suzie and I are in many ways, goodie two-shoes’. She’s 14, and had recently just had her first kiss with a boy named Ray.
