Zodiac killer The zodiac killer was a serial killer who functioned in northern California in 1960 and 1970. The zodiac kills various victims in Benicia, Vallejo, lake berryessa and San Francisco between December 1968 to October 1969. The killer identity remains unknown. He kills four men and three women between the age of 16 and 29. The killer originated the name zodiac in a series of taunting letters sent to local bay area press.

Through a series of cryptic letters he sent to the press and others he offered clues, future murder plots and adopted the name Zodiac. He took responsibility for murdering as many as 37 people, but police investigators confirmed that seven people were attacked by the Zodiac of which five died. He was never caught.
