Entering college can be one of the scariest, yet liberating experiences of a young adult’s life. It’s a time to branch out and grow as a person and really figure who one would like to become. The largest and most substantial moment in my life so far has been starting college. This is because college is a mature environment where a student has not only many freedoms and responsibilities but a chance to learn, socialize, and get active in the university community. The first year of college forms students into well-rounded individuals.
It also states that the community college can be for people that have jobs, but who want to study for a career. I agree with Rose in the point that students in community college should have more acknowledgements to have better resources for their career field. There are some students who have struggled with high school education, but have decided to do something to study for a career. Most students don’t have enough time, or financial means to pay for university classes. These students then enroll in a community college.
In my opinion I think I like all year around in school. If kids really look at it, we get alota days out for a break. Many schools also need to come on there education because the drop out rate may come back up if it already haven’t. Many schools say they do many things to help students and they really care about the students, blah blah blah, some schools are just all talk. Schools have at least a hand full of teachers that really care about the students life after high school, some teachers make sure that there students go to college and some don’t even care what goes on when were out of there classroom.
Including room-and-board expenses, and the total cost for a student, at a public university, averages $11,354 and at private colleges, $27,516. Most students, who struggle to keep up with their payments, eventually get a job. Freshmen who are in need should look for campus jobs that can both bring educational and financial benefits to them, a job from which they learn something and a job from which they receive a pay. However freshmen that need the money more should stick to jobs that just pay them, if they are not able to find these educational jobs. As they continue their college life they should keep searching
Yet at this seminal moment, we can't help looking back. . How do we measure the time we've spent in high school? In the beginning, we measured it in class periods, counting down the day to eventual freedom. Most of us have grown from this experience, making us better candidates for our future.
“Gap year students show a clear pattern of having a higher GPA than would otherwise have been predicted, and the positive effect lasts over all four years” (“Data”). With a gap year, college students are more likely to go to school with a purpose and want to do well and get good grades. Taking a one year break between high school and college allows motivation and interest to studying will be renewed. Excelling well in academics can help one get scholarships and will help them pay for their education, so they won’t have to pay as much. College can be very expensive, and not many people have the funds to pay for college.
The Telegraph newspaper made a study that shows that between 20% and 40% of college students in the United States enter their first year undecided. Choosing a major is arguably the most important decision students will make in college, especially because it can affect their career choices after graduation. For many students it is difficult to choose their major. Thus, the best steps that guarantee you will choose your right major are by following your dreams, and asking a counselor. First you should major in subject areas that interest and feel passionate about it; consequently, it will make you engage fully with the material you are learning and marketable in a competitive workforce.
Allison Perrymond Archer ASC 101 29 November 2011 I made it through my first semester The first year of college can be a new and exciting journey for many students. Students can also take on new experiences in their first year of college; it can also come with bumps along the way. As a student he or she must find a way to balance their new life as a college student and their transitions. There will be difficulty transitioning such as adapting to new the new environment, trying to make new friends and difficulty with class work. Adjusting to an environment that you’re not used to can be too much for some students.
Distance learning is a great way to get back on track with school and get students motivated to graduate and start college. As it is stated in “Online Classes Can Increase Learning”, “online learning can enable districts to provide solutions to help address each of these reasons students leave school and as a consequence, could play an important role in reducing the current rate of high school dropouts.” When most teen moms find out they are expecting, they think their
Why High School Graduates Should Take a Year Off Before Going to College I believe that after graduating high school it is helpful in many ways to take a year off before you decide to enter college. Nothing is better for a person than to be able to live a year with a fresh and open mind for what they want to do for the rest of their life. This is a year to be able to consider all the options, find stability in their life and with their financials, and they would be way more motivated to go back to school or even have better luck getting into a school. A year to be able to consider all the options in life could be very useful for indecisive people. If you are not positive on exactly what you want to do in life yet a year is more than enough to research jobs.
