Tone and Mood in The Great Gatsby Unlike magicians, who never reveal the secrets behind their sleight of hand, writers leave their work behind to be examined long after they have left the stage. By studying the word choices that writers make, and by paying close attention to the placement of those words, we can learn the secrets behind literary magic and perhaps improve our own writings as well. In literary terms, the magic that writers create is call tone and mood. Tone is created by the words that the writer chooses; mood is the effect those words have on the reader. One of the masters of tone and mood was F. Scott Fitzgerald.
We decided to perform the wizard of Oz as it has a theme running throughout with the main sequence being set in a dream/fantasy and the main characters being very non-naturalistic e.g. the main 3 characters are a Lion, Tin man and a scarecrow and they are being hunted by a wicked witch who has a green face and are not characters you would likely come across. This links to kneehigh as the characters that they portray are often fairy-tale/stock characters e.g. bad witch in Hansel and Gretel. Although this musical rarely breaks the fourth wall we will incorporate this into our version to add more non naturalistic features and make our performance unique.
Myriad’s process claims got even less respect. In just a few pages, out of 156 in total, the court concluded that they all failed the Federal Circuit’s “machine or transformation” test for method claims. (This test comes from the recent Bilski case. Although the Supreme Court will soon issue its own opinion in Bilski, the machine or transformation test is the law unless and until the Supremes order otherwise.) Judge Sweet found that none of the methods were tied to any particular machine, nor did they bring about a tangible transformation of anything.

Frost indicates how life can be ruined by a simple malfunction or cease of light. Light, in the poem, however, does not symbolize sunlight, or even actual light for that matter, but rather thoughts, knowledge, and understanding. Although Frost’s poem is difficult to interpret and understand, once it is understood, the theme it conveys is obvious. Frost’s theme is that humanity is dependant on thoughts and knowledge, for, as long as we continue to think and grasp ideas, humanity will survive just fine. Frost compares a nearly never-ending play to like, for a play is a dramatic interpretation of real life and life, to humans at least, does seem nearly eternal.
Yolen’s decision to write Briar Rose in a fairy tale forum helps provide another viewpoint that can help you comprehend such a gruesome period of history like the Holocaust. “Briar Rose reinscribes memory, and shows us what an important role storytelling can play in the acts of surviving and transcending horror.” (Wells 1) The very last article that I was able to find on the Briar Rose was a short one, but clearly had a positive reaction towards Yolen’s book. It states that Briar Rose regardless of the fact that it is a work of fiction speaks the truth and is brutally honesty. “Despite whatever connections we may or may not have to this dark period in history, there is a part of us that is only able to comprehend the true enormity of such stories when they are hidden in depts of older tales, for these old tales exist in
“Remember first to possess his books, for without them he’s but a sot, as I am, nor hath not one spirit to command” (Shakespeare 105). Prospero can also use magic in the play, which represents technology. Prospero is more advanced than Caliban because he has access to technology, which Caliban does not understand. Prospero can use his magic to
The game was not the key master to unlock the beast within. Any type of game cannot influence you or make you do anything that the characters do in games; it is your own choice. As I said in my first paragraph, I understand everything that happens in games; these things are happening all around us and are in the news. The worst of it is actually spoken of in church! Unless you think that going to church and listening to the news is going to lead your life into a downward spiral and impact you negatively, then you should also know that video games will not do that either.
Realism, which began in the last half of the 19th century (and has remained dominant in theatre for the last 120 years), started as a tool to make theatre more useful in society. The emergence of realism in theatre encouraged playwrights to write realistically with faithfulness to situations from real life without adding any color or embellishments to it. The language used and events that occurred in these literary works highlighted the reality of life and were never out of the ordinary. The predecessor to realism was romanticism, a theatrical movement that left hardly any room for imperfections. The worlds and events portrayed in romantic plays were perfect, surreal and beautiful.
I am entranced by Samuel Beckett’s writing. He has an incredible theatrical sense: he knows the power of live performance and everything it entails in terms of choreography, rhythm of movement, lighting and all the other resources of the medium. It’s almost as if he writes the theater before he writes the play, telling the story through those three-dimensional elements rather than beginning with text that then has to be translated onto the stage. Some of his plays don’t even have any spoken words. I love that kind of inherently theatrical drama.
