Is it beneficial for technology to be incorporated into the educational process? Some people believe that technology in the classroom should be limited while others embrace technology as a powerful teaching tool. The reality is that the use of technology in classrooms must be regulated to ensure that technology is used effectively without controlling the means of instruction completely. To begin, the use of technology in classrooms offers a variety of benefits. Firstly, it can help compliment the various types of learning styles that exist amongst students. For instance, You Tube videos can be incorporated into lessons for students who are visual learners. There are also interactive technologies like Smart Boards that can be used to assist tactile learners. Technologies, like the ones described, cater to student needs and can therefore improve instruction in classrooms. In addition, technology in classrooms is beneficial because it offers many resources that aide in student research. Unfortunately, access to various resources can lead to issues of plagiarism in student work. Therefore, teachers must instruct students on how to find reputable resources and how to cite them properly. If used correctly, providing students access to interactive research tools, like the internet, can be beneficial to student learning. Moreover, technology can have a positive effect on student academic success because it offers equal opportunity and access to education for most populations. For example, many institutions currently offer online courses. The intent of offering online courses is to ensure that all individuals have equal access to quality education. The option of distant learning eliminates geographical barriers, and therefore education limitations no longer exist. As such, advances in technology offer many benefits to student learning.
