Thinking is the act of using the mind for processing information and imagination and to arrive at logical conclusions. To think is to have creative thoughts, to bring a thought to mind by imagination or invention to devise or evolve to invent by imaginative thinking. The use of Mind Maps stimulates the thinking power of our mind as it unlocks the potential of the brain by harnessing a full range of cortical skills such as words, images, numbers, logic, rhythm, colour and spatial awareness in a single, powerful manner. It allows our mind the freedom to explore new territory, to mix ideas in new ways, develop new patterns and channels of thought. It also helps to build association between ideas. Our mind forms associations almost instantaneously, thus mind mapping allows us to write our ideas quicker than expressing them using words or phrases. We can use Mind Maps in brainstorming sessions, making decisions, planning activities and conducting meetings.

Brainstorming is a process of generating creative and new ideas to a problem or a topic. The use of Mind Map during a brainstorming session stimulates thinking by enabling us to create an infinite number of thoughts, ideas, links and association on a given topic.   It is a graphical representation of the way we generate and organise our ideas in our brain. By presenting our ideas in a spatial manner and by using colour, pictures and key words, a better overview is gained and new connections can be made visible. For example, Mind Mapping is used to brainstorm ideas for my school’s fund raising project which is the central focus. Ideas generated by other members of the staff or me such as approaches, target, planning and communication, incentives are put as the main branches. Any subsequent ideas that come to mind are added to an existing branch if they are related.
