Cellphones have become ingrained in our every day lives and many view them as an indispensable item. Long gone are the days where cellphones were regarded as a luxury, now cellphones are a basic necessity where most people cannot function properly without it. The omnipresence of cellphones in the recent years has resulted in a kerfuffle amongst the public about the use of cellphones in schools. A segment of the public considers the ban of cellphones in schools to be indisputable. However, the truth is that the conditions of the modern world are favouring a trend towards banning cellphones in schools as relics of a bygone era. The presence of cellphones within the school compounds has been argued to be more of a boon than a bane. Many schools in Singapore have abolished the rule that forbids students to bring cellphones to school. Most parents are in favour of such a change. This is because parents can easily track their children’s whereabouts using Global position system available in their children’s cellphones. Cellphones can be a tool for working parents to keep a tab on their children and monitor their daily activities lest they take part in illegal activities. Next, students should be encouraged to embrace new technology such as smartphones as it bring immense convenience to our lives. Our education system had transformed to integrate online learning into the traditional method of in-class learning. Living as an offspring of the Information Age, students need to exchange information and to have instant access to knowledge through smartphones. Hence, students need to equip themselves with a cellphone in order to be constantly in-touch with academic information that is available online.
