The weather seems to correlate with the story and the rain is also a connection to water, which is another characteristic of Film Noir This Film Noir film seems a little strange to viewers today with the strange dialoge and Neff’s detective-like narration. The way the script has Neff add “baby” to his sentences when speaking with Dietrichson also seems out of place, but it wasn’t for the time that this movie was released in 1944. With many Film Noir characteristics, Double Indemity is a great film filled with

Virgil Tibbs: Accepting the Future “[...] there are places in this country where a coloured man, to use your words for it, is simply a human being like everybody else.”(94) John Ball’s novel, In the Heat of the Night features a unique character named Virgil Tibbs. Virgil significantly contributes to the novel’s plot, but is only a flat character because his views remain the same from beginning to end. Though he is quiet and respectful, Virgil’s mere presence in the small southern town of Wells, Carolina leads to many changes that shape the novel and influences the characters in it. Virgil serves as a sharp contrast to another character in the book, Jess the mechanic. Unlike Jess, who is muddled by: injustice, segregation, and racism, Tibbs stands for: freedom, acceptance, and equality.
In Manchild in the Promised Land, Brown directly depicts the exceedingly complex society of Harlem and its people, its actions, and its rhythms. Using various rhetorical devices, Brown recounts his journey growing up in Harlem and becoming a writer. With this, he persuades us that a generation of people who have lived through struggles is still capable of having a life without bitterness because they are not defined by their childhood. As a member of the Harlem Buccaneers gang, Claude Brown witnesses death first-hand. Yet above all this, he has been able to land on his two feet and become a distinguished man.
The night club is a far less menacing place and serves as a refuge for Sonny where he can forget about his drug addiction. The selection of the city Harlem for this particular short story most likely came from James Baldwin’s personal experience. James Baldwin grew up in Harlem, New York and so he most likely knows the setting very well. Harlem has a reputation of being a dangerous and undesirable place to live. The fact that Sonny is a heroin addict would not be surprising to a reader of this short story if they were educated on the city of Harlem.
Humanities Sabrina Huaraque Ender’s Game essay 10/14/2012 “ In the moment when I truly understand my enemy understand him well enough to defeat him, then in that very moment I also love him” * Ender Wiggins Through out the stretch of Ender’s Game, Ender is obviously very logical in his decision making and his leadership style but I believe that what makes him such a good leader is his ability to lead with a heart. To think his decisions though considering how they will affect the people around him. Also through the book he learns to care for people and do everything in his power to help them. For example while training Bean, Ender pushes him as far as he knows bean can go but at the same time he truly care for Bean’s well being.
Conrad being able to say that he thinks of Berger as a friend really means something. Now he likes him and thinks he's easy to talk to. Berger said it back and really meant it. This affects Conrad because he likes knowing he's a friend to him, this makes him relax and smile. Later on Conrad gets in a fight with Stillman and he needed to see Berger badly.
Of Mice and Men The book, “Of Mice and Men,” is written by John Steinback and it’s about an unlikely pair: George is “small and quick and dark in the face”; Lennie, a man of tremendous size and great strength, has the mind of a young child. They’re the main characters and they just basically go around California, looking for work in farms. The book took place during the Great Depression. But I’m wondering if George is a good friend to Lennie. I believe that George is a good friend to Lennie because he constantly looks out for Lennie and treats him well, not the best treatment towards a friend but it’s still good.
Sonny’s Blues has a good moral about family and how it is the most important thing we have got. Being able to learn from mistakes is a very valuable lesson but it is easier to learn and move on with family by your side. Sonny is described in a common stereotype of the time, a stereotype that his own brother holds until the end of the story: the heroin-addicted jazz musician.
Same kind of different as me One weekend, out of curiosity, I cracked it open and couldn't put the book down. Within the pages of same Kind of Different As Me, I found a compelling story about two men: Ron and Denver, the unlikely friendship formed between them, and God's redemptive story weaved throughout their shared lives. The story of Same Kind of Different As Me is entirely nonfictional, which is the best kind worth telling. While it is a tale of deep pain and difficult circumstances, what is beautiful about the book is the element of nearly-unbelievable redemption. A poor, black man who is bitter and penniless ends up graciously loving those who hate him and closing a few high-level art deaks, while a self-absorbed aristocrat ends up serving at a local homeless shelter and inviting the poor into his home.
