Romeo and Juliet’s death can be blamed on Friar Laurence because he knew a lot about their relationship. Of course, Romeo and Juliet have to be put to blame as well since they were the ones that kept everything a secret. In the play, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the sweet Friar Laurence and the two star-crossed lovers are to be put to blame for both Romeo and Juliet's death. Out of all the people, Friar Laurence is one person that should be held accountable for Romeo and Juliet’s death. Friar Laurence knows that Romeo and Juliet have feelings for each other.
In The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, a great feud centuries-long between two families is the root of much violence, tragedy, and sorrow leading to the demise of the two main protagonists and many others. The Capulets and Montagues have been fighting and causing unnecessary death in the streets because of their feud for centuries. Friar Laurence knowingly married Romeo and Juliet even though they are both part of the feuding households and he did not inform anyone about this marriage. Also, Romeo and Juliet made terrible choices leading up to their untimely death. Friar Laurence, the House of Capulet, the House of Montague, and the sprightly couple of Romeo and Juliet all guiltily contributed in the sorrowful result of the situation, Friar Laurence
Throughout the story, (Romeo and) Juliet have been secretive about their relationship. Since Juliet has kept it a secret from her parents, and the people around them. The Nurse and Friar Laurence were the few to truly know about it. If their parents or even the Prince knew about Romeo and Juliet being together, the play would’ve turned out completely different in Acts 3-5. For instance, Juliet’s parents probably would’ve canceled the marriage or Juliet and Paris earlier in the play, or even Romeo’s banishment never would’ve been delayed.
None of these people knew what would eventually happen to Romeo and Juliet; they didn’t know they would cause the demise of the young couple. In fact some of these people weren’t even thinking about Romeo and Juliet at the time they contributed to the tragedy. The smallest decisions had a large effect on Romeo and Juliet in the end of this Shakespearian masterpiece. Friar Lawrence ended up contributing to the tragedy more directly than Nurse or the Prince. This was mostly due to poor timing and bad luck when it came to his plans.
Who was to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet? This essay will examine the possible causes of Romeo and Juliet’s tragic endings. Romeo and Juliet became victims to their own love because of their families stubbornness, their own irresponsibility and most of all because of fate. The feuding family is a large contributor. The conditions forced because of the animosity between the families made the couple feel prohibited to be together and thus hiding their love.
Romeo and Juliet had no control over falling in love with each other and the unfortunate events that followed. Second, fate has a huge impact on Romeo and Juliet being born into the family feud between the Capulet and Montague’s. The actions of the feuding families set into motion the unfortunate events that lead to the demise of Romeo and Juliet. From the start of the play the chorus begins to talk about how the two families hold an “ancient grudge” (Prologue.3) on each other. It also states that Romeo and Juliet were born from “the fatal lions of these two foes” (Prologue.5).
Once he finds out this is true he blinds himself and banned his self from civilization forever. He is the most tragic hero because fate was a main part of the tragedy. Oedipus rose to be king then fell to become a blind person who committed incest. Hamlet main goal was to avenge his father. Hamlet’s father’s ghost appears to Hamlet telling him what happened and to avenge him.
This play is a tragedy so there will be deaths but these deaths are caused by the faults of others. Many different messages are hidden throughout the play but I think the overall messages is to not seek revenge or it will all come after you. Hamlet wanted to seek revenge for his father’s death and that caused Polonius’ death which Hamlet was mistaking him for Claudius who was his main target. Polonius’ death caused Ophelia to go mad and crazy and that led to her own death. Laertes and Claudius had a plan of revenge to go after Hamlet for causing Laertes’ father death.
Romeo decides that whatever happens is up to fate and it’s completely out of his control. Also, after killing Tybalt, he calls himself “Fortune’s fool” and realizes he will be punished severely (3.1.142). Romeo is basically says he is a subject to the whims of fate. He thinks fate is playing around with him and not taking responsibility for what he himself did. However when he hears of Juliet’s “death” Romeo tries to “defy the stars” and kills himself (5.1.25).
Shakespeare presents the feud between the two families as unnecessary, wasteful and it is the cause of death for many characters but without this hatred the final uniting of the two families could no have been possible. The fight is seen to be “a plague o’ both [the] houses…[and] they have made worms’ meat of”(A3, S1, L107-109) many of the characters. The Montague and Capulet’s hatred also affected the play’s final outcome because of the consequence behind their hateful actions. The grief that comes with loss, Romeo’s banishment and other events that take place all present the fact that “all are punished” (A5, S3, L294) for the violence. The hatred between the Montagues and Capulets also led to their love being forbidden, if the two families were not enemies than the death of Romeo and Juliet would never have taken place but in the end their death ultimately brought the families together.
