The Tea Party of the Colonia Era and Tea Party of Today Despite having the same name “Tea Party,” this modern day movement does not share very much with the historical event in 1773. The most glaring difference between the Boston Tea Party of 1773 and the Tea Party of today remains to be the movement’s political affiliations. The majority of the Tea Party members are registered Republicans voters who support many of the party candidates, which divides the resemblance of the Boston’s Tea Party from the very beginning. The Boston Tea Party received no financial support from large companies looking to push their views on society. The today’s Tea Party receives substantial financial support from multibillion dollar company owners such as the Koch Brothers.
One of the more important events was the Boston Tea Party. When the Boston Tea Party[->0] comes to mind, many people think of the ship and the tea and patriotism in the 18th century. No one seems to think of the many different viewpoints that were brought up from that moment to the viewpoints from numerous textbooks over the years. Some thought highly of the patriots and their actions; some, however; were against the acts of colonists. Although the Patriots of the colonies viewed the Boston Tea Party[->1] as a rude awakening to England, the English viewed it as an
“Consider the importance of the Tea Party in the US politics” (10 mark) The Tea Party is a loose network of groups mainly organised at the state level, it has resisted creating a centralised leadership structure, the Tea Party is effectively leaderless, although Sarah Palin and Fox news Glenn Beck enjoy wide support within the Tea Party, but they do not speak for or lead the movement. It is a populist political movement that is generally recognised as conservative and libertarian, and usually support Republican candidates considered politically acceptable .The Tea Party has obvious historical links to the Boston Tea Party, a protest by colonists who objected to a British tax on tea in 1773 and demonstrated by dumping British tea taken from docked ships into the harbor. Some commentators have referred to the Tea in "Tea Party" as the backronym "Taxed Enough Already". However, even though the Boston Tea Party derives it’s name from the incident that happened in 1773, the party itself emerged onto political scene in 2009. The Tea Party is quite important on the political scene of United States, and there are many reasons for it.
Such actions resulted in the creation of political parties; the biggest political parties are the Republican and Democratic parties. Though not always productive, these parties happened because a few people decided to take action for what they believed to be right. There are many instances in the United States where such actions have taken place, but in this essay we will focus on two: The Boston Tea Party and the current Tea Party Revolution. These two movements are similar in many ways and we are going to focus on those similarities. The Boston Tea Party happened in 1773.
The United States has a running history of populist movements spurring up in retaliation during periods of economic hardship, and the 2008 financial crisis is no exception. Sparked by Rick Santelli’s response to Barrack Obama’s mortgage relief plan, the Tea Party movement, unlike its predecessors, brings its focus on to the federal government, rather than a lack of trust of business in general (Tea Party Movement). Lacking any one true leader, the Tea Party movement rallies around core values and beliefs for guidance and its stances, but its exact direction varies. While the Tea Party movement is based on the sound fundamental principles of fiscal responsibility, and free market economics, constitutionally limited government, their ability to change the course of our economics and
A caucus would provide the party organizations with a meaningful activity, and give local party activists a real role in the nominating process. Given the weaknesses of political parties these days, a caucus could provide an impetus for party building and party activity, long missing from contemporary politics. The word "caucus" itself comes from the Native People of America and means "to gather together and make a great noise." This seems rather appropriate but this system of electing a presidential nominee is becoming less and less popular as it puts a great deal of power in the hands of local party bosses and the fear is that the beliefs of the people themselves at a local level are not necessarily listened to. By 1980 only 25% of the delegates to the national conventions (coming from 18 states)
Tea Party Movement America’s independence comes from two main parties, Republicans and Democrat; however, there have been Parties maneuvering into the spotlight the most recent The Occupy Wall Street and the Tea Party Movement. The Tea Party movement is a conservative, libertarian and populist movement and was founded in 2009. As the beliefs of those were that their ideas, beliefs, and agenda’s were not being brought to the attention of the government. As with any movement there are concerns and issues to exactly what is being sought. What exactly does the Tea Party Movement seek, change and not just a quick fix.
A lot of people think the events surrounding the historical incident known as the “Boston Tea Party” was the actual start of the American Revolution. However, I learned from this Podcast, called “How the Boston Tea Party Works”, that while it was a major event it did not start the war. English parliament had started to enforce taxes on the Colonists. A major tax was the Stamp Act in 1765. The Stamp Act required that all paper products had to have an English stamp on them.
Critical Analysis Howard Fineman’s “The Thirteen American Arguments” was a story filled take on modern politics that brought up interesting questions. Although some of his conclusions can be left up to debate the author brings up the importance of identifications whether it is a word or translation. These words and their translations are what I will be discussing. Throughout history a dominant group will step up and say who belongs and who doesn’t, who is and who isn’t, what we can do and what we can’t and usually this is while usually using established doctrines. Wordplay is the reason why most politicians seem to be lawyers not politicians.
Pity the Billionaire: The Hard times Swindle and the Unlikely Comeback of the Right. New York: Metropolitan /Henry Holt and, 2012. Print. Notes: This book not only established the creation of the Tea Party Movement of the past few years, but established the purpose of its creation and the true motives of those who forwarded its message. Thomas Frank does an excellent job drawing comparisons between the original Boston Tea Part movement, the farmers movement of 1932, and the movement of the current Tea Party members of today.
