I need to find a good hiding place for you. As I was racing with the wind, I saw a ship coming in along the beach; I followed it and saw that about sixty men got out. As I hid behind a tree and as I was listening to their strange talk, I was wondering what they were doing here. Why have these strange men come to my homeland? Suddenly, I hear a faint rustling behind me. I turn around and saw that it was my sister. She asked me what I was doing and I show her the ship. “We must go warn the others, that there are outsiders,” she said. I told her ok and we raced each other back to the village to tell my father. My father was deep in thought when we got to him and when we told him the news, he just sent us away and made us give our word that we wouldn’t speak of this to anyone. I was confused why couldn’t we tell the others that we had visitor’s? A few days passed and it seemed that we were getting another with these strange people, but winter was upon us and food was getting scares. One night I woke to people screaming and the smelling of something burning strong in my nose. As I ran out to see what all the commotion was about, I see several armed men running away with some bundles. We have been robbed. The next day my father give a speech about what had happened. “Why will you take by force what you may obtain by love? Why will you destroy us who supply you with food? What can you get by war? We are unarmed, and willing to give you what you ask, if you come in a friendly manner. I am not so simple as not to know it is better to eat good meat, sleep comfortably, live quietly with my women and children, laugh and be merry with the English, and being their friend, trade for their copper and hatchets, than to run away from them. Take away your guns and swords, the cause of all our jealousy or you may die in the same manner.” This is true, why must they steal? Have we
