Lee Lin 5/9/12 The speed limit should be lowered to 40km per hour to save lives. The accident rates have risen recently and many people have been killed due to the high speed limit. Thus some people are suggested to reduce the speed limit to 40km/h in term to prevent death accidents. Yet others disagree because it causes traffic congestion. I strongly believe that the 40km/h is inappropriate speed limit. Most importantly, the speed limit reduced to 40km/h will cause traffic jam especially during peak hour. There are a few thousands of vehicles moving on the road in the morning and evening toward to the work places or go back home. The slower pace of the vehicles will make the traffic heavier and causes more people late to their destination because being trapped in the traffic. This phenomenon causes more time will be wasting in travelling and directly decreases the productivity of the nation. In addition, drivers who are impatient when encountered with the gridlock may be more likely to drive aggressively or dangerously. Besides, some drivers who drive too slowly will tend to fall asleep and sometimes can’t concentrate, these circumstances will lead to an accident, isn’t that more dangerous? The accident will happen even the lower speed has been implemented. It is also cause by other factors. Sometimes, accidents happen due to the road conditions. The uneven surface and slippery road after rain also will cause severe accident as the drivers will out of control. Drivers with reckless habits and attitudes have contributed to the accident occurrence. In extreme cases, drunk driving will increase the percentage of accident by three times as claimed by the experts. In conclusion, I believe
