Soon enough her father died and kids started picking on her about her complexion. Char the most popular girl in the grade, makes a deal with Maleeka that if she does her homework for her Char will always stick up for her and allow Maleeka to borrow clothes. In the hall one day Jamie Jadestone one of the most popular girls in school came over to Julia and tried to start trouble, but to bad Julia is a smart cookie and can get herself out of bad situations she just simply said “Get out of the way” and walked on and that was in between second and third hour time and Jamie was in Julia’s next class. Mrs. Appleseed who taught World Geography and didn’t stand for any clowning in her class, nothing got past her eyes. She lost all her friends and has no one to talk to and share her feelings to, besides Heather. Heather is a girl who comes from Ohio and moved to Syracuse New York. She is a student from a different middle school and is unaware of the incident that just took place. Heather becomes her friend, but she soon backs off from being Melinda’s friend because she thinks that Melinda is the most depressed girl she ever met and she is not so cool so she goes and hangs out with the cool girls. Leaving, Melinda everyone turns there back on Melinda, but her lab partner who tells her and encourages her to speak up and not to remain silent.
Jing-Mei was honest because she knew she couldn’t play, but she still tried. Jing-Mei gave up and she confronted her mom that she can’t play the piano. Amy and David were friends since they were 12, but now Amy is a whole new person. While David was in his room thinking her thought to himself, “But she hardly spoke to me at school, ever.” (Kretscher 207).
