Analysis The Sin Bin or Lucy’s Heart Lucy Cross Sabina: “The Sin Bin or Lucy’s heart” is written with the use of a 1st person narrator, who is our main character, Lucy. That means we get a very personal insight in the text and the main character's opinions and feelings. Thea: Our main character is a girl who is sitting in detention. She is usually a very intelligent and conscientious girl in school and it is very unusual that she acts rude and in a bad way. Lucy is sitting in detention because she has hit her old best friend Penny after she had got into bad company with Bethan. Thea: Lucy wants to be older and she drifts between all the choices in her life. It appears in the story that Lucy’s mother is very careful and really wants Lucy to stay in her childhood. She do not want Lucy to go with make-up and smoke cigarettes and Lucy has always listened to her. Now she wants get free from rules and expectation. Ditte: Bethan is a rude and selfish girl. She takes Lucy into a bad environment and we get the clue that Bethan is from a lower socialised family, which makes it hard for her to make real friends, because she needs a kind of accept and therefore wants people to gain things for her. It can also be because Bethan has tried to be pushed into something herself and therefore she wants to shove all her bad behaviour on others. Sabina: Penny is the opposite of Bethan. It seems like she comes from a higher socialised family with high educations, but her family is shown in the story, and it tells that Penny’s father hits her mother. Therefore she acts a little bit shy and just spends time at her school. It can also be the reason for her not to hit Lucy back. She is very frail and compared to Bethan it seems like Penny also needs someone who cares which guide us to the similarities between the girls; the fact that they all need accept, care and a
