The significance, usefulness, merits and concerns involved with social media applications (social networks) such as Facebook1, Twitter, MySpace, etc. have greatly increased over the past few years since becoming a mainstream online activity. Telecommunications and Internet access has allowed communication to evolve through the use of social media applications. With technological advances in communication such as the computer, email and mobile devices, social media applications are more and more becoming the most used means of communication. The significance of social media applications has affected Internet methodology changing from an information warehouse to a more social environment due to the use of social media applications. Users not only exchange information with each other, but author their own pages, thereby also contributing information to the vast library of the information reserve of the Internet. Most tech devices sold today already have social media applications installed on them. Social media applications are very useful as a means to be able to reconnect with many friends you grew up with went to high school and college with, and those with whom you’ve lost touch. Almost everyone uses social networks for personal or business purposes; whether you have a personal Facebook account to keep in touch with friends and family or a business that uses social networks to take advantage of low cost advertising to reach an enormous target market. A merit of social media applications is that it is easier for people with similar interests to connect with each other. The human race has always had an innate need for social bonding; social media applications have made that more possible in today’s high tech world.
