The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People Summarized by Robin Hill This book was very self-motivating, inspirational and enlightening in personal leadership lessons. The word habit was defined as…the intersection of knowledge, skill, and desire. It takes all 3 to form a habit, good or bad. To create good habits or to discontinue bad ones you have to be motivated by a higher purpose and this process will produce happiness. All 7 habits are habits of effectiveness, based on principals, and will become part of one’s character and will bring long-term beneficial results. 1)Be proactive not reactive. This means more than just taking initiative, it means taking responsibility for your own life. We have to make things happen consciously and then we choose our response. Proactive people focus their efforts in their Circle of Influence. In other words we focus on things they can do something about. We don’t focus our energy on our Circle of Concern, in which there are things which we can do nothing about. 2)All things are created twice, mentally then physically. To be truly effective we must begin each endeavor with the end in mind using the script that we have created and not one given to us by default. 3)Put first things first is becoming principle-centered. We do this by practicing effective self-management. Independent will, the ability to make choices and decisions and then follow through accordingly is what makes that possible.4)Win/Win is a frame of mind and heart that is beneficial to all parties involved, seeing life as cooperative instead of competitive. 5)Seek first to understand, then to be understood. This principal is the key to effective interpersonal communication. Be empathetic and listen with intent.6)Synergy is the essence of principal-centered leadership. Simply, it means that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. 7)Sharpening the saw is
