EQUIANO DISREGARDS HIS PAST Olaudah Equiano’s, The Interesting Narrative and Other Writings, portrays the life of a little boy who is enslaved early in life until the time when he is capable to buy his own freedom from his masters. Many critics who have read his biography have said that he detaches himself from his own people; he betrays other Africans by condoning slavery. Equiano’s life was lived in slavery, serving others, taking orders, being beaten and not having the life of a “free” man. He talks about the life of an enslaved man, the various experiences, tragedies, hangings, beatings, and cruelties. Although, when Equiano is awarded his freedom, he acts as if he never lived an enslaved life.

Although many people see John Brown as a failure in his life, Thoreau views him as a man of great whit and courage.

In one situation, Baca writes “The only way I seemed to impress them was by my fighting” (page #); he was like a hero in Theresa and her friend’s eyes. If he backed out his friends wouldn’t respect it and fighting was the majority is his life through out the memoir. Baca later states, while being in jail, “All the fights I’d won to prove I was a man didn’t matter; nothing mattered expect what I was going to do now.

In the old society, if a faction was the majority, their opinions overrode every other opinion. This leads to great conflict.

Throughout the years, even though Victor was just plain mean to Thomas, he always still seemed to be there to help Victor. One day Victor had gotten his foot stuck in a wasp’s nest. Without any hesitation, Thomas risked himself to help Victor. He pulled his foot out of the hole and told him to run. They both ran as fast as they could.
From here his legacy only continues. Frederick Douglass’ life is one of many hardships and exhaustion. Understandably he is broken and unmotivated at times. But, he always seems to find the determination to become a free man and fight slavery. His perseverance is second to none.
