She began to shut herself from her husband and most importantly, her son. The mother-son relationship has clearly died off. The lack of communication between Beth and Conrad affected Conrad in many ways. Beth’s cold attitude towards Conrad leads to his anger and how he wants to be left alone from everyone, including his father. Beth shuts out Cal from showing her real emotions on her favorite son’s accidental death, and lack of communication with Conrad brings the Jarrett family into an interpersonally distant family.
The only ones left are Crooks, Candy and Lennie. Curley’s wife comes looking for Curley and they treat her like an idiot ‘[You] think I don’t know where they all went? Even Curley, I know where they all went’ she says. We can see that she knows that they went to the whore house, even her newly married husband. This makes us sorry for her because Steinbeck portrays that Curley doesn’t care for their marriage he just carries on as if it doesn’t exist.

They both wanted a companion, a person that they could call a friend and talk to. Both were treated unfairly and weren’t liked by people.
Clarisse’s death shows the ignorance and the inhumane cruelty in the society. The ignorance in the book can e portrayed through Guy Montag’s wife, Mildred. Mildred fits perfectly into the society, because she is just like everybody else. She watches T.V. all day long, hates books, and doesn’t have one bit of curiosity towards knowledge, unlike Clarisse.
He scared everyone he came into contact with and was labeled as the "breathless horror"(56) which made it impossible for him to socialize with any humans.Unlike Victor who chose to be alone. Valerie, in the other novel was isolated by ones who at one point, did love her. The creature was abandoned from the start, he was rejected and hated from the moment he opened his eyes. Complete isolation for Valerie doesn't happen until much later in her story. The horrible image of the creature's outward appearance physically isolated him from society.
Dewey Dell hates Darl because she can’t keep any secrets from him, because he can look at her and know what she’s hiding. The rest of the family knows that Darl is different from them
This is one of the reasons for his mental break down. Holden sees the world as corrupt and wants to protect the children’s innocence. Holden cannot find a place for himself in the world. All of this leads to his downfall, consisting of his parents abandoning him, him not fitting in, and nobody wanting to be around him. A symbol from this novel is Holden’s red hunting hat.
Along with that, she’s married to Curley who she never really loved thus making it even lonelier for her. Also, since she’s married she can’t follow her dream of being a movie star which she confesses to George and Lennie. For instance Curley says to her “Why’nt you tell her to stay the hell home where she belongs?” This shows no one wants Curley’s wife around. Steinbeck even give her a name of her own. That just shows how much he wanted to express her isolation.
Since during the novella Curley’s wife is constantly bullied and segregated which drives her to having to flirt with the men since it is the only way she can get anyone to talk to her so she deserves to live a life free from loneliness and sorrow and to live her dream. George in one way gets what he deserves since that he is freed from constantly having to watch out for and look after Lennie so he can live his life how he wants with no distractions. However, he does lose his best friend and only companion which is grave since now he has no one to share his lifelong dream with. Lennie deserves a better a more full life where his dream of petting rabbits comes true and that he is forced to be valiant by George and occidentally kills Curley’s
