Devin Bryant Mrs. Kemp Language Arts 11 Rough Draft 1920’s vs. Now Women in the 1920’s had totally different standards from the life of women now. The job market for women was dreadful. Single women had the highest chance to find a job, because they had to keep themselves on their feet. The women took jobs of nursing, teaching and warfare. Now women have a variety of jobs, from nursing to serving the military.
However, this period where so many great changes had been made in the church, in literature, and in all other artistic areas, women took a big step backward in their fight for equality. Women were thought of as property, owned first by their fathers, and then their husbands. This is only true, however, for the upper-class. Commoners during this time were not affected by the new social reforms. Lower class women still could own properties and shared many responsibilities with their husbands.
Women were expected to marry, have children and financially they were expected to be fully dependent on their husbands. Women rarely had careers and most professions refused entry to women. However, between the years 1850 and 1901 women’s role in society began to be challenged. There were a number of reasons for this,
However, when the 1990’s began a lot of feminist movements began that spoke out to the fact that women should have more of a role in society than just to cook and clean. This is when women started competing with men for jobs and education like they never had before. “Young men…have been challenged by women in areas that our fathers and grandfathers never were—in education, the workplace, business, the professions” (Katz 17). For a lot of men, this is a difficult thing to deal with. Being in a position where a male is not the dominant sex can really make one begin to doubt their masculinity.

She does begin to display some energy for what could change minds of women that accepted their submissive role in society. “Since they were given the role, women have still rallied and protested to rights of men. Despite the winning of voting, property and working rights, they have accomplished nothing relative to their vital factors of their existence”.5 Her belief is that they are there to lead the movements of bettering society by voluntarily bringing in only those who are fit to undo the wrong that they have allowed to come about.
The Role of Women in USA Women have changed from the past 100 years because they used to be housewives now they are saying their own opinions and standing up for themselves. Women are showing great responsibility that they can work as hard as men and get jobs and make it a career. Since men told their wives to cook, clean and take care of the children, women haven't be able to get paid when they apply for a job since 1920's. I believe that women have different qualities to men. Even though men usually get jobs, some women have standards that reach what a company is looking for.

Women had few rights and equality; men and society itself looked down on women as though men were always and will always be superior to women. Billie Jean King helped change that society and made the world easier for the women to live by gaining more equality and rights for women such as in the educational department, athletics department, and everyday life society without any physical fighting at all. “Tennis is a perfect combination of violent action taking place in an atmosphere of total tranquility” (Biography Online). It is clear that there is and never has been true equality between men and women. Today the modern woman has much more freedom and liberation then she did in the past in most places around the globe. It is important for us to understand our roots and history. We can take many ideas from people who have lived before us and even incorporate or adapt some ideologies to better our modern world. Many times social class also out weighed the fact that they were female.
