Compare and Contrast: Calixta and Mrs. Mallard Both women from “The Storm” and “The Story of an Hour” have very intriguing personalities. In the case of Calixta, she is alone in her house, awaiting the return of her husband Bobinot and her son Bibi from their trip to Friedheimer’s store. A fierce storm keeps the two from coming sooner and at the same time; Calixta rekindled a relationship with her past lover Alcee until the storm had passed over. Mrs. Mallard, on the other hand, is told by her sister and her husband’s friend Richard, of her husband’s untimely demise in a railroad disaster. She mourned of her husband’s passing but as she went up the flight of stairs into her room, Mrs. Mallard came to realize of her newfound freedom.
In “The Storm”, the wife Calixta was controlling and Clarssie was a happy person who was glad to be free with her husband presents. In “ The Story of an Hour”, Mrs. Mallard was unhappily married to Brently. He was controlling and abusive to his wife Mrs. Mallard. Mallards’ sister came to reveal to her that her husband (Brently) died in an accident. Richard, whom is Mr. Mallards’ friend, ,however, was there for support and comfort for Mrs. Mallard.
Section one is brief and it focuses on Bibi and his father Bobinot, who are shopping at a store when they witness a storm brewing. They quickly discuss whether or not Bibi's mother, and Bobinot's wife, will be worried at home waiting for them. In Part two, Calixta, Bobinot’s wife, is at home alone when the storm starts to develop. Just as the weather takes a turn for the worse, a man rides up to the house and asks if he can wait out the storm there. Calixta invites him in, and then she realizes that the man, Alcee, is someone that she once shared a romantic past with.
Us kids found it somewhat entertaining, but Aunt Faye was scared to death. You could see it in her hair, wait I mean eyes. Hours had passed and the storm had finally came to a calm stop. We got a call from mom saying she was getting to leave work and heading home. I think that call was the highlight of Aunt Faye’s night, and mine too.
Within the short story "The Painted Door" Ann shows that she experiences feelings of depression, and isolation. Ann's negative mood is apparent through the story and can be seen at any time during the story. Ann's husband is named John and through the story she says many sarcastic and condescending comments, "plenty of wood to keep me warm - what more could a women ask for" (Ross 288). It is clear that Ann is unhappy with John and not satisfied with him. She does not want John to go to his father's house to check on him because she does not want to be left alone in the house when there is a snowstorm is taking place outside.
Right after the snowball accident, Mrs. Ramsay went over to the Dempster’s house to aid and support them. She told Dunstan and his father to not wait up for her; but Dunstan could not fall asleep. MAMI GETS A JOB In this chapter the story opens up with the family preparing for a hurricane that’s heading their way. The hurricane’s name is hurricane Santa Clara and according to the radio “it was the biggest threat to Puerto Rico since San Filipe destroyed the island in 1918.” The family spent time nailing plywood against the windows and in the process of doing so Papi was going on and on about the hurricane Negi felt that he seemed worried about what was heading their way. Mami bundled clothes together bundled the families clothes, pushed her rocking chair, the table and stools, her sewing machine and the pots along with the pans into a corner and pushed them into the corner and tied them to the socles then pressed it all up against the strongest wall of the house and covered it with a sheet as if that would keep everything from being blown away. Mami had Negi take the kids to Dona Ana’s house and she and Papi would be there shortly after. She rounded the children up and unlike every other time this time when she told them to come with her they did so and they listened to the orders she gave without an argument.
Addy was still weak from the efforts of her labour, and still sore and bleeding, but she knew she had to leave and she had to leave today" (Lansens 271). Then, when Addy loses Chick, she handles the situation in a better way: "She would not pass through the big oak doors though. Instead she climbed the fire escape stairs, stepping around Mr. Baldwin's winter wood and kindling, intent on keeping her memories at bay" (Lansens 472). Addy is able to overcome the feeling of hurt fast after the death of her second child because she already faces a similar dilemma with her first child. She leaves a whole country to conquer the feeling of loss of her first child whereas she simply decides to ignore the passage her family used to take together in her building after her second child dies.
Montag is her family, but she doesn't consider him as much as a family compaired to the parlor walls. Another example that Mildred should start thinking for herself is she pulled the alarm on her own husband, Montag. Montag did something against the law and Mildred didn't want to get into trouble so as a result of it, "she pulled the alarm" (Bradbury 115). She lost her husband because she listened to the
