Overloaded information makes people lose the ability of thinking deeply and also change the way we are reading. There are too much databases on the Internet. In order to get more precise information efficiently, people learnt to skim the Website much quickly. “A style that puts” efficiency” and “immediacy” above all else, may be weakening our capacity for the kind of deep reading” (153). Deep reading is indistinguishable from deep thinking.
People can make video conference, download music, create DVDs and CDs, communicate with people all around the world, and endless things on laptop or desktop computer. Yet despite these similarities, there are a lot of differences between these kinds of computer. Laptops offer some advantages that desktops don’t. First at all is the portability. A laptop is easily to carry anywhere; it is perfect for students, and professionals who require a computer while on the move if they need to give presentations or access internet while away from home.
Positives with the Internet and Growing Up The youth generation today uses the internet so much in their daily lives it has created an epidemic. Technologies such as ipad, laptops and smart phones make internet access unbelievably easy. Carr thinks that excessive use of the internet might cause permanent changes to the way our brains work and we don’t have to remember as much, because we have RAM (Random Access Memory). Carr suggests that due to all the choices and distractions the internet provides its user whilst searching for information, it ‘turns us back to our native state of distractedness’ (Carr 373). Carr feels like due to the constant quick thinking skills that the internet demands us to have; we are losing our higher order cognitive abilities gained from focus reading such as from a book. Our ability to think in a creative and reflective way is diminishing. Carr feels the automatic way of thinking means we are ‘losing our mental discipline’ (Carr 375).
Privacy Paper HRM320: Employment Law Prof. Brian Lahargoue DeVry University Online Valerie Tidwell In the work place today there are many things that the employee is doing that makes a company want to keep track of what is going on within the company. The theft of company time is one of the many things that a company is trying to get a grip on and with the changes that are happening daily within the internet and the world becoming more digital and electronically advanced, it is a race to balance what is considered to be private and what isn’t private. Throughout all these years, the net is becoming the universal source of information for most of the people and the way the media is presented gives us a big reading deficiency that is increasing every time. Nevertheless Carr want us to realize that we probably will be reading more today than an average person did in the 1970s or 1980s but the way we read now produces a different type of thinking, a poorer one. Web advantages and the use of citing other authors The author recognized the huge advantages of using the internet to do researches and finding vital and valuable information. Being more specific, he seems to love all those benefits that a laptop can provide and he also states that most of the time he uses search engines to complete his tasks. By mentioning and quoting a lot of successful writers and bloggers, he expect us to understand that the loss of memory and attention is something that can easily happen to everyone; even those who spend their time reading a lot of information, they will suffer the same consequences if the media is not presented by an auspicious medium.
The instant entertainment, communication, and social media all gone, people’s lives would probably be destroyed. We are too reliant on technology and it’s becoming part of our lives. Computers and cell phones affect social interaction, interferes with family obligations, and shortens ones attention span. Although this “supersystem” provides us with the best entertainment and is always convenient, we should go into the outside world and do activities without the use of the internet. Instead of wasting valuable time browsing the web, try going to a fundraiser or book signing.
February 15, 2013 Exploratory Essay Composition I While I believe on ground learning is more structured and beneficial for some, online learning takes a lot of discipline and motivation to complete, because it can be very strict and distance and no set schedule. It can be very challenging, due to the fact that online learning requires students to participate a certain amount of hours or certain times per week. Online can be beneficial for working class people, or stay at home parents, because it allows the flexibility to attend at your own pace. My perception is that it can present many pitfalls and failures because it requires more discipline and commitment. For instance there may times when circumstances arise where you cannot participate
The extra stress of care and expenses can sometimes take a toll on the parents or caregiver which can lead to abuse. Also the condition of the child could prevent the ability to fight back or tell someone. People have to be extra mindful to look for signs of abuse and be extra supportive of the ones taking care of disabled children. Due to advances in technology, children are susceptible to internet predators. Children are meeting sexual predators on the internet and forming relationships with them and unknowingly allowing them into their lives.
