Stacey Denlinger Ms. Monica Busby English 365 27 January 2012 The Road to Becoming a Teacher We are all faced with a very difficult decision as we grow close to graduating high school. We have our counselors, parents, and friends asking us what we are planning to do with the rest of our lives. At the time, we either don’t take them serious or we become stressed out because, in most cases, a 17 year old does not know what he wants to do for the rest of his life. An article from the University of North Carolina proposed “it’s not just choosing what you are going to do for the rest of your life; it’s also choosing how you’re going to get there” (“Why”). Like anything else in life, we can’t just want something and expect it to happen. With hard work and dedication, we can achieve our goals. They now have many different degree programs out there that are convenient for all individuals. Different programs and opportunities include online programs, associate programs, community colleges, universities, etc. They have colleges that work with people who work during the day so they offer night classes. They also have online classes for people who work or single parents or working parents. I was faced with this situation as I entered my high school years. I grew up in a home where my mother didn’t go to college and neither did my father. However, I still looked at them as successful because we always had nice things. I soon realized as I grew older that things were changing in the world and I would have no choice but to go to college. Because of the different opportunities we have, we can all be successful in the professional world. I had to weigh out my options of what field I thought I may be most valuable to and would make the biggest difference in. It is also important to choose a career you will find happiness in since it will be something you do every day
