Argumentative Essay: The Rise of the Internet By Tiffany Smith Professor Nipp English 101 1 May 2012 Tiffany Smith Mary Nipp Eng. 101 2 May 2012 Argumentative Essay: The Rise of the Internet The rise of the internet has certainly had an impact on cyber bullying, personal relationships, and the safety of children which has created many issues, having cause for major concern. The impact the internet has had on personal relationships has been negative, this is because of all the deceiving behaviors, trust issues, and undetected dangers from constant use of the internet. Cyber bullying is when people use the internet or modern technologies to embarrass, harass, humiliate, intimidate, or threaten another person to gain control and power over them. When letting the internet into your home your open the door to the safety of your children and strangers possibly getting personal information. For instance, reports of adolescent’s online frequently encountering pedophiles have increased over time. When adolescents deceptively hide information from their parents about the content of their conversations they are only creating trust issues. Internet sites like Facebook.com and Myspace.com are surfed by predators looking for potential victims. Those two websites are mostly consumed with adolescents; it’s a predator’s preference. Adolescents are not aware that this is creating a dangerous environment for them while online. The dangers are not obvious to everyone, causing some officials to travel to different areas and speak to groups of adolescents. Some parents are not even aware of what is happening online. Many school districts in the United States are starting to take appropriate steps aimed at stopping cyber bullying.
