Gang violence has been an issue since the 1980’s and active in all 50 states. Gang violence is on the rise and they are not only present in the urban areas but rural and suburban as well. There are 27,900 with about 774,000 members impacting our communities across the United States (US Dept of Justice, 2008). Gangs create the majority of crimes that involve weapons and drugs. Gangs are becoming a growing problem in our society and its young members are turning away from family and school to destroy their lives. Gang members are usually made up of young females and young males between the ages of 12-18. They usually stick together in groups and are always getting in trouble with the police.
