M2- Self awareness is the ability to know myself, my abilities, limitation and what is my personality is like. Self awareness is a very important tool to have as it helps me to be conscious of my limits and areas for further development. It is hard to do this with a friend because we may not want the friend to know who we really are. Before we can professionally help others as counsellors, we need to be self aware. This is because of the nature of the role of counsellors.
We need two types of people in order to make this a reality. The first type of people that we need is people that are willing to teach others about their culture and the second type is people that are willing to learn about the cultures of others. Learning this way will help us to see past the typical stereotypes that we see in the
The basic communication principle I apply to my personal life experience is knowing my audience and communicating a little at a time. I believe by knowing and interacting with a person before I just say what’s on my mind.I believe by knowing the person’s attitude and belief will help me be better prepared to answer questions they might want to ask me whenever we strike up a conversation. I also feel the results these results are a accurate description of my personality and communication style. I am a introverted person and I see this plays a factor when I talk to strangers. Yet, I do know how important and how good it can feel to connect with someone new.
We have different likes and dislikes, come from different cultural backgrounds and will have been brought up in environments that have provided us with different outlooks, values and perspectives. As we learnt in the previous module, when we use hypnosis with a client we are working with the subconscious mind so in order to achieve the best chance to success we need to do our utmost to assist our clients to realise the most beneficial state possible. There are several techniques that we can employ that alter the language we use to suit the personality and individuality of the client and this is what we are going to be studying in this
Choice is not only for people who can speak for themselves. People with some disabilities or disease have to have their choices as well. We will need to develop our observation skills to discover the ways in which people we support express their preferences. Over time we will be able to build up a more detailed understanding of how they communicate their likes and dislikes. We can then use this information to involve the person in making more choices.
They enable us to gain professional development and provide a way to identify good practices. 1.4. Describe how own values, belief systems and experiences may affect working practice? Values, belief systems and experiences may affect my working practise because if I treat people differently or force my views and opinions on to people it can cause conflict. By listening and understanding other people’s values and beliefs I can understand them and their beliefs better and improve communication with them.
Counselling/ counselling ideas may help to cope with the challenges of ‘change’ ‘The more I am willing to be myself in all this complexity of life […] the more I am willing to understand and accept the realities in myself and in the other person […]” Rogers (1961). In order to tackle changes in a client’s life, it is important for the counsellor themselves to be self-aware and have an understanding of others’ values, beliefs and attitudes although they may conflict with their own. The counsellor is there to help the client adapt to these changes, helping clients to push out old information and take in new- this however is also an aspect of change which the counsellor has to help the client pursue whilst keeping ethical and professional boundaries. Changes are accompanied by strong emotions, both negative and positive and counselling is able to support the transition from one state to another. When looking at coping with change it is not possible to ignore some of the events which change our development, life events which cause significant change are called transitions (Jeffery, J in Aldridge, S & Rigby, S 2004).
Task B Why is reflective practice important? Reflective practice is important as it allows us to build on our strengths and identify our weaknesses. In doing this we can develop ourselves further and in turn this will reflect on the support we give to our colleagues’ and service users. Also by assessing our actions and judgements we can gain more knowledge and be receptive to different strategies or approaches. Overlooking an event afterwards and questioning yourself not as a criticism but in a way to develop yourself further.
Another thing that benefits me is being able to here others people points of view. I may not understand what the instructor is asking so if I read or hear another person response then I may understand it better. I ask the other classmates questions on how they would respond to the subject and keep an open mind about their answer. How might factors such as diversity, attitude, learning, and work styles affect collaboration? *
When you become a supervisor if you want people to perform for you, you have to get to know them on a personal level. You become a therapist, marriage councilor or someone for your subordinates to just vent to. While progressing through my own life, I have been able to develop my own strategies for communication and collaboration. The first thing is identify the individuals strengths and weakness’s, or as they have been referred to as learning styles and personality. Then I would take the task and break it down to subtasks and assign them as a task to an individual and a subtask to help and develop them as a more productive
