At the beginning of the play Macbeth and his lady were very close, this is supported by the how he referred to her in his letter "my dearest partner in greatness" when he informed her about the witches prophesies. 
They shared everything, though he could have waited until his return he chose to send a speedy letter to her instead. She was like his best friend, his greatest confidant. This was their relationship at the beginning. In Act I Scene V, as they plan the murder, it is Lady Macbeth who leads her husband to commit the crime. She believes that Macbeth alone is not capable of murdering Duncan. Macbeth is “too full o’ the milk of human kindness” to commit such a deed. According to Lady Macbeth, there is no ‘illness’ or badness in his personality. He would like to become king but is too kind and decent to murder his way to the throne. After the murder is committed, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth begin to almost switch places. Macbeth keeps secrets from Lady Macbeth, such as Banquo's death. Lady Macbeth becomes the one who is unstable and unsure, She would wake up in the night sleep walking and speaking aloud whilst doing so.
"Out, damned spot! out, I say!One: two: why,
then, 'tis time to do't.Hell is murky!Fie, my
lord, fie! a soldier, and afeard? What need we
fear who knows it, when none can call our power
to account?Yet who would have thought the old
man to have had so much blood in him?" this implies that as she was being watched at this moment that this is how the truth was discovered, tumbled upon by Lady Macbeth's own maid. After Banquo is murdered, she retreats more and more and we no longer see her as part of a couple, Macbeth wanted to protect her, and retreats into his own world. A world of horror that he does not want his dear wife to be a part of. "Be innocent of the knowledge dearest chuck" He pushes her aside, with good intentions
