The education system needs to be reformed so students have the opportunity to choose whether they want to go to college or do vocational training instead. A college degree is bringing more negative aspects into a student’s life therefore students, especially from working class, must know the alternatives to be able to succeed. Most of the students in the United States are middle or working class. In addition of going to school, working class students also have to get a job to be able to help out their families.

I got tired trying to found a decent job, I wanted my daughters to follow in myself steps and go to college. I learned that most jobs are looking for some kind of college degree. I have been out of school for awhile and so I was a little nervous but after getting started I feel more comfortable with going to school. I want my daughters to always know that you can never get to old to learn new things.
I am pursuing a degree at ITT Tech because my girlfriend asked me what I was going to school for and I told her, I wanted to go to school for computer science or electrical engineering. I love computers, phone’s, updated gaming consoles, and new modern technology because that’s what I world is turning into. I told her I was going back to college this summer attending Longview Community College. The whole main reason for me even going to school is to better myself and for my kids. They need me to set an example for when they get older and it’s difficult to take care of kids when you’re working dead end jobs, living check to check.
Going back school to be a teacher was not my first decision. My first decision was to be a nurse’s assistant or something within the health care field. Somewhere along the way I changed my decision and decided to be a teacher. My reason for the change of heart was that several of my relatives said that I should go to school to be a teacher because I was good with children and children seemed to look up to me as a role model. So I enrolled into Lenoir Community College and decided to major Early Childhood Education.
For many years I was scared to go to college because I thought I wasn’t college material. Hearing Capitan Mark Kelly speak about being an underachiever, and a “not so great” student really helped me see that light at the end of the tunnel. When final build up the courage with in myself, I enrolled into San Jacinto College. The only thing that stood in the way was that standardize test. I had to take the entry exam after five years of not being in school.
Because I did not have enough money to pay the tuition, I had to get a job in a call center after school. Working while studying was an additional challenge but it helped to teach me time management and it offered me an even stronger appreciation once I received my degree. Then, I had to have an advance English level so I could graduate. After long consideration I decided to come to USA in an internship program as an Au-pair. This gave me the opportunity to learn the language and get my diploma, but I was away from my country, my family and friends.
Statistics show that those who earn a college degree earn exponentially greater wages than those who do not attend college. With the American economy becoming more and more diverse and global, it seems that a college degree is imperative to gain even an entry level career position. I decided to return to college to finish a college degree that I started on upon graduation from high school and was interrupted when I took a full time job. Upon getting older I begin to think that I would never obtain a college degree, so I decided to construct my life to accommodate my goal of obtaining a college degree. The importance about having a higher education is very important to me especially when I see all that my parents have gone through since neither of them got the chance to go to college. Therefore I see myself working really hard to try to achieve that goal in getting accepted to this college and strive to get a major in psychology, criminal justice or nursing.
