The Real World in Candy Land When we are young we play with many different toys and games. There were action figures, electric cars, board games, ect. at our disposal. The one thing I always wanted to play was Candy Land. It was my absolute favorite board game. Whenever friends or family came over it was the first thing off the toy shelf. I’m not quite sure why Candy Land was my favorite thing to play. Maybe it was the plethora of colors on the box. Or possibly the fact that the entire board was basically every kids fantasy world. What child wouldn’t want to live in a land made entirely of sweets and treats? When I played Candy Land my mind was transported and I felt as though I was actually there. I could smell the peppermint as I walked through the candy cane forest. If I ever landed on the molasses tile I would feel as if my shoes were sticky and I was unable to move. When I was at the last tile next to King Kandy’s castle and I drew the card I needed to win I was always overfilled with joy. Not at the fact that I won the game but because I believed I was actually there, going to meet the king of this fantastic place. No one ever seemed as into the game as I was. I suppose that’s because I mainly played with older people. The game is for ages three and up which surprises me because I didn’t know what molasses was, or the fact that it was sticky which is why you lose your turn if you get stuck on the molasses tile, until I was at least five. How the heck do kids know what it is at three? I doubt they could even pronounce it correctly. Another possible reason I liked Candy Land so much is because it required no reading what so ever. All you had to do was know your colors and what candy was which. Instead of stimulating cognitive thoughts, it stimulated creative ones. Hence, me being taken off to Candy Land in my mind and pretending I was in the game
