For some reason the bickering and fighting on these shows tends to attract a large audience. The drama seems to excite people who just happen to have little to no excitement in their own lives. Reality TV has become a way for people to escape they’re uninteresting lives into the lives of people with more day-to-day action. Reality shows can serve many adequate purposes for both the participants and the viewers. People can actually learn a lot from these shows.
Around ninety-nine percent of families in America own a television, which means they watch TV a little bit each day. So Steven Johnson is writing to a very big audience and tries to persuade to them that watching TV makes you smarter. He starts out his article with a conversation of two scientists from the Woody Allen’s movie Sleeper. The script was supposed to be an opening joke because in the movie all the food that is supposed to be bad for you, turned out to be good for you in the future. The central claim of Steven Johnson’s article would be that watching TV makes you smarter.
Although our world has TV, most people do not solely rely on TV as much as they do. In 451 you see Montag on the subway creating a scene because he was sick of the constant commercials. This even happens to people in our society well. Mildred is the representation of an everyday citizen in the world of 451, and you see her spend all of her time in front of her three wall TV. It seems to me that throughout the years TV has become more popular, and most people have at least one TV in their house.
After bringing Ben back to the house the children started to stay away from the house. Jane was quiet and to herself but went to her friends house after school. Paul did come home but he was often in tears, whined alot and stared for long hours at nothing. He was too thin because of his malnutritioned appatite. He didnt concentrate on important things, he daydreemed and mooned restlesly. The problem with Paul was that he didn’t have a mother at the time when he was growing, which is why he turned out this way.
They need to do more things that involve everyday people trying to get in good shape. Despite what most critics think these commercials are hurting more than helping. Greatness is not only for the naturally gifted chosen athletes; greatness can be achieved by any hardworking person not wanting to take the easy way out. Nike is a major sporting retailer and has the ability to influence the obese community by changing their commercial strategies and target audience. Obesity has become a big issue in America and instead of motivating others to get fit; it would be more beneficial to help people by giving them the steps to “find their
The lucid shift in values has been from developing a meaningful philosophy in life to being well-off financially. Being an avid viewer of television, I have realized that the majority of the time is spent watching commercials and various advertisements for materialistic products. “In the course of a year, the average American will view approximately twenty-five thousand commercials” (Elgin 104). These commercials are not simply advertising products, but promoting attitudes, values, and lifestyles that are associated with them. “The unrelenting consumerist bias of television distorts our view of reality and social priorities, leaving us entertainment rich and knowledge poor” (Elgin 104).
Who Is To Blame? Daniel Weintraub’s article, “The Battle Against Fast Food Begins in the Home,” argues “26 percent of school children (in California) are overweight.” (42) So who’s to blame for this epidemic? According to Weintraub, “It’s the fault of parents who let their kids eat unhealthy food and sit in front of the television or computer for hours at a time,” (42) Many of our country’s people blame the fast food industry for over-advertising, selling unhealthy food, and selling oversized portions. However, others such as Weintraub argue that obesity is a matter of parent responsibility. I do agree with him at a certain degree that parents are the ones to blame instead of fast food companies.
EFFECT WATCHING TELEVISION ON STUDY HABITS Televison effect Television is so awful, and students watch so much of it, that it's not surprising that there's been much sociological research on its effects. Most of the studies, though, suffer from the third-factor effect - yes, student who watch a lot of TV tend to be more aggressive, but could a third factor explain both behaviors? Student with lower IQ scores also tend to watch more TV and be more violent, as do person from poorer families. The correlations between heavy TV watching and other behaviors could be merely effects from common cause. Definition Television habits consist of patterns of behavior determined by the amount of time and importance individuals give to watching television broadcasts and recorded videos and DVDs.
It is also a place where everybody learns to share, and bond birthing that often accompany lifetime. This is why I think in two reasons that I agree whit year round school, one of them; students tend to forget a lot during the summer and on the other hand, decrease in child-care expenses. In the first place, we have students tend to forget a lot during the summer. This is a big time when they have nothing to do. Most of them keep in the house watching TV, playing video game and computer all the time.
, maybe because the students prefer pay attention to other things less important than the class, that things could be some appliances like the cell phone, the mp3 player or simply they are talking to other mate in the classroom maybe about something that happened the day before or about a relationship between them, I mean they are a couple, that’s the most common in classes. Another reason is that they don’t go to bed on time. I think they like to watch T.V. until midnight or maybe they like to play videogames and students spend the whole night without caring about school next day. Anything else is that students go to bed too late, so they get up late at morning too; consequently they don’t have enough time to eat breakfast, what happens they go to school and in a while they are feeling tired and sleepy then, they don’t concentrate in school.
