Jerrod Coulter Ap Gov Pd.8 PAC’S are groups of people or companies who are likeminded forming political committees to fund certain political purposes. These PAC’s are perfectly legal however they are undermining our government by swaying political leaders to lean towards protecting their interest in return for more money. In this way the roles that these groups fill is no more than to slow down and distort our political process for their own agenda. I argue that PAC’s are the biggest threat to our Republic’s democratic process currently. There is a law limiting the amount that a single group can give, but that’s not effective because a big company can make a bunch of little PAC’s and suddenly $5,000 becomes $200,000 or more. It’s a huge flaw in the system, and it cannot be allowed to be abused anymore before congress is in complete gridlock because they can’t endanger their interest. These interest groups aren’t just targeting politicians they are also buying votes; one example the article gives is The National Automobile Dealers Association getting a bill that would require them to inform buyers about defects in the car shot down. Along with the United Auto Workers paying $1 million to raise support for “domestic content”. It is so evident of a problem in our political process. So what can be done? Do we smack the cooperation’s on the hand and tell them to stop, or do we continue to allow this. I believe that we need to bring the hammer down on these groups and let these companies know that is not okay to abuse our legislative process. But the problem is none of this will happen in congress, the representative’s will not budge on this and everyone knows that because they must protect their reelection funding.
