Their goal is not perfect equality, because people differ in ability, and some work harder than others. The goal is equality of opportunity-sometimes called social democracy. Ensuring Peaceful Change: Those who favor democracy believe that democratic procedures for bringing about change make violent revolutions unnecessary. They claim that democracy meets the just demands of the people more effectively than any other form of government. Supporters of
Pressure groups are mostly seen to be a major part of how democracy functions in the UK, however whether they undermine democracy is a question that has always been raised. They are mostly seen as to help democracy rather than hinder it however, as they help to represent the opinions and needs of minorities, as well as give an extra platform for participation. One of the ways in which pressure groups can undermine democracy is that they concentrate power, meaning some groups are able to influence the government more than others. These types of groups are ones such as the BMA and BDA, wealthy insider groups which a close and established relationship with the government and have direct access to decision makers, allowing them to influence policies
Carter gave too much independence and paid for it, whilst Reagan put Jim Baker in a spot where Baker could not succeed if Reagan did not succeed either. Not only in politics had this idea been utilized. If you want to hire the most talented people for your business, look at those trying to beat you. Hiring those show nerve and gain you reputation for being open and willing whilst showing their weakness to submitting to you. This not only gains a new tool to use but also gains you more strings pull and ways to do so.
Answer: A dictatorship and democracy are quite different, but they can also be similar. In a dictatorship the common people have no say in the on goings of government or the treatment of the governed. In a democracy the people DO have a say in what goes on, and they vote to make decisions. Both can be good in bad in their own ways. Some say a dictatorship is better because the people don’t know what is and isn’t good for them.
Matthew Carney Final Exam Weeks 1, 2, 3, and 6 W1. The United States isn’t a democracy in fact it’s actually a democratic republic. In a contest between a direct democracy and a democratic republic I would have to choose the latter. In a direct democracy people would tend to vote more along the lines of how they feel rather than by law. Electing representatives that can spend their time going over budgets and bills as their job is being more efficient.
Handing over the responsibility of making and amending laws to politically inept i.e. the general public is generally not advised. It is misguided to assume that all people are rational enough to choose the decision that is best for them. Most people tend to vote on issues based on their emotional response to them, charismatic campaigns and the opinion of the masses. The results of the referendum will therefore not be based on individual opinion and defeats the whole point of having
The democratic form of government is most familiar to the modern western citizen. However, there are many forms of communism and dictatorships which exist around the world today. The ancient philosopher Plato protests that a monarchist oligarchy, which calls upon an elite group for governance, is the best possible form of government. However, based on vagueness in terms and overgeneralizations Plato creates a flaw in his argument and weakens its validity. Through the elimination of social class systems and based on the separation between Government and economy it may be seen that the platonic ‘drone’ will not lead to tyranny.
Citizens should be encouraged to embrace their citizenship, and not merely as a duty, but as a meaningful opportunity to participate in their own government for the sake of common good and in building the culture of life. In addition, it is an exercise of significant individual power. Now, most Americans will tell you that our politicians have all the power, but I disagree. Although it is true that our politicians do make the laws, here in the United States of America, the people have the authority. If an individual does not vote, then that individual cannot argue or comment on the outcome of what our politicians do.
There are other ways of running a country and one such is with Dictatorship. This is leadership by one leader or an army. There are no elections. They often rule by force and are not fair. History shows democracy as the best way to run a country as it is with the consent of the people.
They believe this was a right that they were given by our Four Fathers, which is clearly not true. Yes, they have the freedom of speech but when should the freedom be taken away? What about the rights of the innocent victims and their families? Hate crimes, because of their nature will always lead to violence and this is not a freedom that people should have. In my opinion, the penalties for hate crimes should continue to be more severe than that of a regular crime because so many innocent people are injured and even killed simply because they are different.
