This does not mean that parents have no rights to what happens to their child while they are at school but this allows school to guide student behaviors though discipline. This idea is called in loco parentis (pg. 378). This concept was once more important in schools than it is now but it has brought forth it idea that no matter the student, disabled or not, there needs to be a certain level of responsibility put on all students for their behaviors when they are at school. This would be a great chapter of the book for parents to read because it would help them to understand why the school is doing what it is doing.
The stability in the classroom is necessary to meet basic needs of students. I believe firmly that if basic human needs are not met then there is no hope for curricular learning to take place. The student needs to be comfortable to learn. To correct a behavior that is already in progress prevention can also be a method of attack. The key is to discover the antecedent and change it, remove it, or take action to create a new one.
“The institutions traditionally procure, provide and control the technology for learning but now students are acquiring their own personal technologies for learning and institutions are challenged to keep pace” (Research in Technology Learning, 2010). Computers and other technical devices that are being used to enhance student learning helps to make teaching more creative and effective; however, it has also caused a lot of confusion and chaos in regards to ethics. Once teachers only had to be concerned about the basic rules of classroom etiquette and they could govern their classroom visually. Now teachers have to implement rules and guidelines to ensure that technology in the classroom is being used for its intended purpose to protect students from lurking dangers that might not always be detected by human
The responsibility to deliver the proper and unbiased learning curriculum lies in the hands of the educator. Although, generally the curriculum is approved and handed down by the state; the educator must possess the capacity to lecture the students in a proper manner. Students must not be treated or educated differently on the basis of religion, gender, or nationality. Every effort must be made by the educator in order to provide an environment which is conducive to the learning process. An educator should constantly be revising lesson plans and expanding their own knowledge in order to deliver an optimal learning experience for the students.
Often, the display should be the representation of the children’s own work. However, posters, published materials or good quality photographs can be used when the children’s own work is not available. The display should always have a clear title, a year group label and should have a short explanation of the task / learning objective. In order to enhance and enrich the displays, all the labels could be printed by school staff or children using their computer skills. It is also important that the class teacher uses a range of questions to draw attention to the display and encourage interaction.
As many educators know, discipline and management are central to effective schools. All teachers are responsible, as professionals, for managing discipline in their classrooms. Administrators and educators have a responsibility to ensure that they provide an effective curriculum delivered in a safe and secure environment and this cannot be achieved without the effective management of discipline. Any behavior that challenges a child’s ability to learn should be managed. Effective management of discipline does not just happen; it requires consultation, planning, commitment, and constant review and evaluation.
No one method will be suitable for all learners and all situations and the person responsible for the students learning must be prepared to be adaptable and use different methods in order to establish appropriate behaviour and an all inclusive environment in which to learn. Ground rules are necessary in all learning environments either express or implied. James Atherton (2009) believes that ground rules are the minimum necessary to enable learning to take place in the class. He goes onto to suggest that a teacher should know what they want in the list of ground rules before they start. He asks the question of teachers, if they don’t know what ground rules they want how will the students?

Analyse different ways in which you would establish ground rules with your learners, which underpin behaviour and respect for others. Ground rules are very important for the tutor to have within their classroom. With out the ground rules they will not be able to maintain order as this will give the students the ability to do whatever they like. When setting the ground rules it can be done by either the tutor or the students or both as this will give the students a sense of responsibility so therefore will less likely to break the rules. How the tutor should set the ground rules would be by putting the students into small groups or 1 large group and ask them to create a list of ground rules and them present this to the class and then rate
It is the schools responsibility to be able to provide good enough teachers, who can prepare these students. In order to have a good education, there must be qualified teachers there to teach and prepare students effectively. Bauerlein questions schools curriculums and the way they are presenting “complex texts” (Bauerlein) to the students; “The more high school teachers place complex texts on the syllabus and concoct slow, deliberate reading exercises for students to complete, the more they will inculcate the habit” (Bauerlein). Students learn what their teachers tell them they have to learn, without knowing the effects the teachings will have on them whether good or bad.
