This proceeds with the question; what advancements are moral? I believe that any science, innovation, study, or sort of exploration must be morally just, intended to better our understanding of the world, and be created with intention to improve any part of society. For example, the formation of the first rocket ship was monumental in bringing exploration to the new frontier and impacted our society for the better. Therefore this invention would be considered moral and for positive advancement. On the contrary, the scientific creation of something such as the nuclear bomb could be considered scientific expansion for the worse as it can provide horrible outcomes and is lethal if put in the wrong hands; thus classified as
What we don’t think about is the fact that most medical and quite a few technological advancements evolved because of war. Another fact is that, although it’s hard to believe, but war makes countries use their resources better, or at least find better ways to use them. Think about it, most countries try to win wars and to do that, you need to be better than the people that you are fighting, so we use our resources better. Another thing, without war, we might not have certain medical advancements at our disposal; such as penicillin, hydrogen peroxide, and antiseptics. Life would be a lot harder if these things had never been created, wouldn’t it?
These conflicting views on technological advances in these novels can be related to the modern age that we live in today. Yes, there are numerous benefits to technology, but we humans cannot allow ourselves to become dependent on technology. The benefits are related to The Killer Angels: technological advances have helped make our lives much easier. For example, with the internet, we no longer have to painstakingly research information from books. The dangerous prospect of humans becoming too dependent on technology is seen in Jurassic Park.
Tevin Hutchinson 11/10/2012 English 102 Technology plays a huge role in our everyday life. I do believe that technology has made our lives easier, but it also has made us more dependent on the technology itself. When using the internet for a dictionary you could easily get distracted. Anyone can put anything on the internet, so what you find might not be accurate. Most people find that looking things up on the internet is distracting because you are already on the web so why not check YouTube for a funny video, or update your status on the social network.
Polus admits that it is ‘contemptible’ to do wrong, although it is also ‘good’. 474c 34. Things are judged ‘admirable’ or ‘contemptible’ according to certain standards. 474d 35. Things are admirable or contemptible if they are useful, or pleasant, or both.
The way technology has driven the last half of a century has changed life astronomically. Everyday people crave and desire the next big thing on the market. Whether it is the hybrid car or touch screen phone, the need for something more leaves room in life for unhappiness when those items are not obtained. Lao-Tzu strongly argued that when people do not want anything, they are okay with living simple. This is beyond the truth of today.
She argues that cloning is, "an unprecedented advance in medical research" and should be used to its full potential. The author uses logos and ethos combined with a distinct lack of pathos to make the argument that human cloning should be researched and used as an aid for medical issues. The article is roughly directed at the scientific community, but is mostly written in hopes of persuading those of the general public that have an interest in the subject to look at cloning and stem cell research more logically. Eddon begins the article by explaining the benefits of investing in cloning research, which include more effective treatments for medical issues and a variety of options to reproductive problems. The article immediately begins its appeal to logic.
I believe radiation is slowly changing the world as we know it. Although it can be harmful or even deadly; scholars have come to recognize that the benefits greatly outweigh any contributing negative factors. Studies involving radiation have already brought so many more solutions into the equation, cancer being the largest on the scale. Further studies will hopefully shed more light on the unknown and provide us with even more treatment types. Only time will tell, but we are constantly on a hunt for knowledge, so I believe radiation will continue to play a major role in our world’s future
Terrorists are extremists who believe that they are supposed to hurt a certain group of people because their god or someone that they obey and respect told them that this is the right thing to do because that group is a possible threat to themselves or their religion so they want to take them out before the people group can hurt them. There are also more reasons why terrorists attack but this is one of the main reasons. Since 9/11 has happened, these beliefs and practices have not stopped or disappeared. If anything they have strengthened and become more dangerous than they were before. Since this is a great possibility, terrorist extremists may have become more extreme in their tactic than they were before 9/11 happened.
The biggest was containment against communism which was largely media based and intended to get the world’s support for the war. The United States enforced a strict anticommunist policy across the globe and expected everyone to do the same or face the consequences. (i.e. Korea and Vietnam) Although America did not necessarily win most of the wars fought during the Cold War period, they did accomplish their main goals which were to increase military and defense spending, create economic monopolies, and to greatly increase the number of military bases around the world. The United States could not safely increase their military and defense spending without the nation’s public getting upset.
