Before the digital age mainly newspapers and radios distributed media. In today’s day in age mass media is publicized either through multiple forms of technology such as the radio, television, computer, cell phones, and tablets. Although we may view these forms of media and technology as positive, negative repercussions also tend to arise. One negative repercussion for example is an over exposure to media which causes health problems due to unhealthy advertisement that “hypnotizes” consumers into buying goods and services which have negative impacts on their lives. Yet a positive effect is that the common man gets the latest news within a fraction of seconds. Media and technology provides society with information. This through nonfiction sources such as the news and also through fictional sources such as movies and books. Even though the latter are not factually true, they are informed by facts and provide interpretations and perspectives. Spreading information makes a better-informed society whose people make decisions based on more information. Social networks such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, have removed all the communication and interaction barriers. People can now communicate his/her perception and thoughts over a variety of topics. Students and experts are able to share and communicate with like-minded people and can ask for the input and opinion on a particular topic. Another positive impact of social networking sites is to unite people on a huge platform for the achievement of some specific objective.
