It is considered a dialect of English and not a separate language. I have found in my research of Ebonics that there are many types of English. This is why Ebonics is thought to be slang when it is really a dialect. It works much like English language but with little differences. The biggest difference is that of the sound th, in Ebonics the th sound is d. So words like “those” are pronounced “dose”.
Code switching is a condition where people switch one language to another for certain purpose or reason in the same time. the changes of the two languages can be included in word, clause, or sentence level (Coupland and Jaworski,1997: 361). People may switch codes within a speech even to discuss particular topic (Holmes, 1992: 44). According to Cecilia Montes Alcala code swicthing in Tex-Mex or Spanglish is regarded as a phenomenon that is oftenly attribute to illeteracy, lack of formal education and proficiency in one or both languages (montes-alcala_1.pdf). Also, there are splits in the book that occur between the main characters. In Lord of the Flies, the spilt is between the protagonist Ralph and the antagonist Jack, just as they split between Chuck and Preston in White Squall. On the contrary, Preston is able to change while remains savage.

This isn’t the norm for communication because as Sole (2011) states “all societies communicate the history, traditions, and values of their culture through oral communication; the roots of oral communication reach as far back in human history as scholars can trace, and more recently, writing was used to communicate from generation to generation. When we communicate with others, we learn about their cultural heritage and what is important in a particular culture; we also learn about our own cultural heritage.
