A very good morning to the honourable judges,loyal time keepers, teachers and members of the floor. Let us spend one minute and think together. What happens when a person is bored and restless? Maybe he would like to go to a cinema and kill a couple of hours watching a movie. But what if there are no good movies or if he has missed the screening time? Perhaps he could go for a walk. What if the day is too hot for a walk? What if it was raining? What if this bored and restless person is well and truly stuck at home? The answer is absolutely simple. If that person has cultivated the reading habit he would neither feel lonely nor bored for he would have the company of a good book.
So, Ladies and Gentlemen
      On this fine morning, I would like to talk about a very catchy and interesting topic, “The Pleasures of Reading”. Indeed, the pleasures of reading are manifold. Reading makes a man perfect. By reading, we can get latest information, facts and knowledge of the affairs of the world. The books that provide us pleasure are the books of our liking and interest. Therefore, we should have a vast selection of good books for our knowledge. A book can thrill and excite the reader, educate him, motivate him, and even scare him. There are many good authors, past and present, who can toy with the emotions of their readers, such as Jeannie Kirby and Vivien Alcock. Literature is said to mirror the society. Writers put in their books not only their own ideas and feelings, but also what they observe and find in society. A good author can make his reader laugh or cry, make him feel happy and excited or sad and depressed. For example, a reader can cry when he read a romantic novel. The books of the past reflect the condition of the times in which they were written. By reading books written by great thinkers, we actually come in contact with their minds.
