Mama resents the education, sophistication, and air of superiority that Dee has acquired over the years. Mama fantasizes about reuniting with Dee on a television talk show and about Dee expressing gratitude to Mama for all Mama has done for her. This brief fantasy reveals the distance between the two and how under appreciated Mama feels. Despite this brief daydream, Mama remains a practical woman with few illusions about how things are. Mama is a single parent raising two daughters.
Smith’s strengths are her loyalty, tenacity, and work ethics. She will still be anyone that she has placed in her circle and her family. She keeps going despite the hurdles and obstacles. Even though her husband had a lot of money and wanted her to just stay at home and raise the children, she insisted that she work and have her own money. She states that she doesn’t necessarily like working but she likes the fact that she works and can support herself and her children if needed.
Mama finally stands up to Dee and realizes the beauty in Maggie. Mama is a simple woman. She has worked hard her entire life and has done the best to support her family. Although Mama may not agree with Dee, it seems as if she is caught up in Dee’s opinions and behavior. Almost as if she wants to be enough for Dee because she knows she never has been.
I bought her a hot-water heater, and another one when it wore out…They were tiny things, inconsequential things. I did them because I was supposed to, because it was my turn to do things for her, and because I was trying to make up for any wrong I had ever done her.” (Bragg, pg. 151) His mother made many sacrifices for her boys when she was growing up, and Bragg was compassionate to his mother. He loved her so much and wanted her to live a comfortable life. This can strike a note with most readers, as most people feel attached to their mothers and would do anything to make them happy.
Character Sketch of Mama In the book Having Our Say, Mama is described as a courageous black woman and a devoted mother. She loves each of her children the way “God loves His children” (Delany, Hearth 70). She never turned anyone away who was in need of a meal. According to her daughters Sadie and Bessie Delany, “She’d stop…and fix them a plate” (Delany, Hearth 66). Mama was a busy woman, but always had time for her children.
She shows her children a lot of love and attention and she works hard to be a good mother. Loving, hardworking, and a great parent best describe her. LaRhonda Anderson is a loving person. She never treats me wrong and she has a good heart. Also LaRhonda always helps her friends or siblings that are in need of help.
Comparison Katniss is a strong, unselfish, and independent young woman who is a heroine in the story. I see a lot of similarities between us two because I myself have had to grow up faster than planned. From a very young age, I was always stuck home to care for my brother while my mom went to work to support us. In the book, Katniss is a young lady who takes care of her mom, her sister and their family cat because her dad died in an underground mine explosion. I find her strong because she takes responsibility for hunting the food for supper and making sure her family has all their needs.
When she told you something from her heart she had a look no one could ever forget. Her dark green eyes gazed into your understanding eyes, her naturally dark skin made her teeth brilliantly white, and with the slightest smile she always told her lessons learned so you wouldn’t make the same mistakes she did in her life time. My mother lived a rough life, yet she made the best of everything she received. Due to poverty growing up she didn’t have the possessions that most children and adults have required with abundant funds. Money was this least concern to her, yet she used it as a security blanket from time to time.
I realized that being a counselor is not easy. She has to meet with a lot of kids every day, do communications log, and provide assistance to the kids in any way she can. I know a long day of work can sometimes be really exhausting, however my mom does not give up and still does everything she can to parent me. She guides me in the right path and is always there for her. Her perseverance on keeping things the right way is so amazing.
She is a very resilient woman who is smart, beautiful and loving. The other person I live with is my step-father, and he is the only father figure I have ever had. My step-dad is laid-back, understanding and has very good values. Another very important person to me is my sister, Destiney. Although she doesn’t live with me she is a huge part of who I am and also a huge inspiration to me.
