The Odyssey Essay As Peter Drucker once said, “Effective leadership is not about making speeches or being liked; leadership is defined by results not attributes” (brainquotes.com). Odysseus expressed many character traits throughout the Odyssey. Although courage and decisiveness, Odysseus encounters many challenges on his way home to Ithaca. TS: One of Odysseus best trait that was revealed in the Odyssey is courage. CD: For example, making the Cyclops blind, “Straight forward they sprinted, lifted it, and I leaned on it turning it as a shipwright turns a drill in planking, having men below to swing the two-handled strap that spins it in the groove” (Homer 906). CM: Odysseus was brave going through the cave and sea. CM: He also is strong hearted when he is back home on Ithaca. CD: In addition, when listening to the Sirens` song, “… let the tie you in the lugger, hand and foot, back to the mast …” (Homer 929). CM: Odysseus shows know kind of fear when losing some of his men. CM: He has shown some of his most daring actions in the Odyssey. CS: As long as Odysseus has courage, he will be fearless. TS: Not only courage being his best trait, he has another one which is decisiveness. CD: For example, landing on the island of the Lotus Eaters, “Then I sent out two picked men and a runner to learn what race of men that land sustained” (Homer 897). CM: Nothing was able to stop Odysseus on his journey because he had made critical decisions. CM: Determination is what also led him back home. CD: In addition, having a chance to kill the Cyclops, “If I killed him we perished here as well, for we could never move his ponderous doorway slab aside” (Homer 903). CM: Odysseus original intent was only to go to the battle of Troy. CM: He is a strong minded man who would stop at nothing to achieve what he believes.
