Persuasive Speech Task Year 10 English Assessment Inventions. Yes, they are all around us. Some have worked, and some simply haven’t (cough “Tsui”). Others may have worked, but we don’t like them very much - like the woman in your GPS, or the bouncing pigeon in flappy bird. However some inventions, one in a million, the odd needle in a haystack, have stood beyond the parameters of great, cool and useful, and have ventured into the realms of revolutionary and game-changing. This brings me neatly onto the concept I wish beat into - I mean persuade you with today: THE NUCLEAR BOMB IS A BLESSING, NOT A CURSE. Hahah, I know what you’re thinking but no ladies and gentlemen, I am not Mr Mules and no I don’t want to hurt any of you. But what I’m proposing is that for the next 3 minutes you open up your minds to the idea that all that harms isn’t evil. Sometimes, great people, great things, indulge in horrible deeds that stain their reputation forever and I believe the poor Nuclear Bomb is one in such a scenario. To be frank, the invention has done more good for us than bad: it brought a finish to the second world war, it's prevented further nuclear wars and it has given us technology to produce and harness nuclear power as a fuel source. And yes, for you master debaters out there, I have just signposted the three main points of my speech, just in case you didn’t notice. So sit back, relax, and prepare yourselves, to be persuaded. The Nuclear Bomb was part of the Manhattan Project and was conceived as the love child of Dr. Oppenheimer in July, 1945, only months before it would end the most devastating war in modern history. In a perverted way, this ending was beneficial despite the great loss of life. The bomb in essence prevented years of conventional warfare which would have eventually killed more people in more places in contrast to the nuke which had a concentrated
