The one positive aspect of television is some educational programming, however this should not be the only form of learning outside of school. although children are learning they may also be learning thing a parent would not want them to know. in turn they may also learn things that are a positive influence to their life. to ensure which your child is learning would depend on the amount of monitoring a parent was providing. statistics show: kids ages 2-5 spend 32 hours a week in front of a TV. , pg 1. children 6-11 spend 28 hours a week in front of the television., pg 1. 71% of 8-18 year olds have a TV. in their room. pg 1. 54% have a DVD/ VCR player. pg 1. 37% have cable/ satellite and another 20% have premium channels (HBO, Showtime), pg 1. television is being used as another form of parenting. there is misconception in reality shows, most of what goes on when the camera are on is quite different when the cameras are off. making "reality" unrealistic. women are shown a concept of how they should appear. the result of this is low self esteem issues, that can also lead to anorexia and bulimia. Television can be violent at ties, this opens viewers into thinking some life styles are acceptable. if people can learn to limit their time dedicated to television, and differentiate between real life and make believe the negative aspects of television would be lessened. works cited Regents of university of Michigan.
