In this essay I will be talking about how children are affected by television. Although many parents these days do not want their children to watch television, there are a lot of educational shows available today. Many parents may not want their children to watch modern television, and I would have to tell those parents that there are some shows out there these days that are very educational and they are aimed towards the young. Watching the educational cartoons can be very helpful for a child’s mind. There can be positive results emotionally, physically, and psychologically.
They also made it to were children networks don’t have many commercials and air mostly education programs so that children are learning instead of killing the cells they could be building. Addressing the violence on television they once adopted the Television violence act which expired in 1993 say that broadcasting networks had to limit the violence in their programs. They also made it possible to block programs by passing an act called the Telecommunication act making television manufactures make a special chip to let parents block things that were not appropriate in parents’ opinions for children to watch. Different censorings are the aspect of blocking the television shows and channels you would prefer not to watch. The more violent acts that individuals see on television the more death and crime rates go up in the United States.
“The media: It’s been around for ages, but what you experienced growing up is worlds away from what your children are growing up with today. (Unknown, 2010) Some kids’ lives are consumed by the media, and there can be very negative effects. How [do] the media affect your child, and how can you set healthy media guidelines?” Basically, the Common Sense Media (2010) reported children who are majorly exposed to the media reveal low academic performance. Based on the study they have a lower vocabulary, low reading levels, and perform poorly on test. Children who watch more TV in comparison to those who watch little TV is more likely to perform better in school (School Performance section, para.
I think that if Alice Paul really did meet Snookie I think that she would help Snookie develop a sense in personal integrity. She would probably tell Snookie to cover herself a little bit more that she already does. Alice Paul would try to teach Snookie proper etiquette and how to handle herself better when she is in the public eye instead of making her gender look stupid. Although she might be putting up a show for the rest of the world it still makes women look like an inferior being, even when being compared to the rest of the cast. Snookie seems to embarrass herself the
Television shows like the cartoon “Static Shock” taught its young viewers about things like peer pressure and gangs. While shows like the “Jersey shore” and “Teen Mom” create stereotypes and bias towards the people the supposedly represent. “…will he not have a pain in his eyes which will make him turn away to take refuge in the objects of vision which he can see, and which he will conceive to be in reality clearer than the things which are now being shown to him. ?” (Socrates 1) This quote is basically saying that people are afraid to go against the mold and be like everyone else and sacrifice their beliefs and quiet the voice than to
The author not only discussed the shortcomings of the research article, but she made valid points as to how the research was meaningful and significant. The impact of the article leaves readers with the sense that there needs to be a change in what our children are watching. The research study proved that even in as little as nine minutes children’s overall cognitive functioning decreases when watching fast paced shows. By watching these fast paced shows (compared to drawing or educational programs) children are being primed to be A.D.H.D like impulsive and are not being able to control their attention spans, solve problems, or handle delay of gratification and working memory dilemmas. From the results and the article, parents should be aware of the consequences that these fast paced programs may have on their
For example, One can watch a one hour history program and be interested in what is being said where as most people would not make it to page five of a history book. Although watching Television may be more fun and entertaining, In Johnson’s article Why Games Are Good For You, he talks about how effective media have become in educating children but at the same time these methods of teaching are causing children to lack cognitive skills, causing a deficiency in concentration skills, the ability to pay attention, as
English Composition I April 1, 2013 Are Certain TV Shows Bad For A Young Child? Kids learn just about anything from what they see on TV. They watch educational shows like Sesame Street, Beakman’s World, etc. Shows like these have great educational tools that they teach kids so they can grow up with knowing what’s wrong and what’s right. But if a kid is left alone or unsupervised they could watch shows that encourage them to act differently than usual.
Censorship in television really relies on the person whom is watching either TV or a movie. But in most cases there is an underage kid who cannot watch certain things that should be censored and not all channels and movies are censored. Programs shown over television may contain offensive language or visuals, which may be harmful for the viewers like children. I believe that all programs on television should be censored by the government or a responsible group or even
When the parents spank the kids, they’re doing it out of caring and want to teach them a lesson so they can learn the consequences from their actions. According Professor Marjorie Gunnoe, “children spanked up to the age of 6 were likely as teenagers to perform better at school and were more likely to carry out volunteer work and to want to go to college than their peers who had never been physically disciplined”. Children who are been discipline by spanking since little will most likely will be doing better later on in life. People who spank their children want them to grow up to be respectable people instead of being a bad one. Children often make bad behavior and decision so there is no problem with spanking as long as it is used in moderate way to teach the kids how to be good and not as a way injures or abusing them.
