------------------------------------------------- The Music Delusion of Today ------------------------------------------------- Rap artists are extremely popular today in mainstream music. Rappers such as Lil’ Wayne, Akon and Drake make millions of dollars every year by entertaining the youth of America. But what if I told you that you have as much talent as they do, but just don’t know the right people? The youth of America today is making these rappers out to be idols, when most of the time the rappers themselves are talentless individuals. Rap is corrupting the youth of today by dishonoring what a true musician is. ------------------------------------------------- Have you ever read out loud in a classroom, or read a script in front of someone else? If so, you are already close to being a successful rap artist. Rappers typical will go through their songs in the studio with a producer. If the producer is talented he can take anyone’s voice and use a popular style known as ‘autotuning’. Autotuning is the act of taking someone’s voice and bending it to specific notes and bends pitches to keep someone’s voice in tune through computer programs and software. Without the hassle of keeping their voice in tune or staying in a specific key, a rapper can easily just talk through his songs as well as not have to sound well at all. Autotuning (which is very prominent in today’s rap music) takes the skill out of singing at all, thus leaving me to believe that with autotune, any one of us can be a rap artist. ------------------------------------------------- Song crafting has been a key element of being a musician for hundreds of years. Musicians slave over their instruments to find particular keys, chords and notes that match the feeling given out by lyrics.
