Observing Commonplaces- The Movie Theater Topic: Typical observation of etiquette during the movies in modern American culture. Place: Northpark Amc Theater. Movie: The Chronicle Field Notes: Details | Dialogue | Setting: Northpark Mall AMC Movie Theater in Dallas, Tx. Winter weekend night, 7:00 pm-9:00 pm. Two young employees present, who were working the ticket booths one male and one female. I was with my boyfriend. We walked in theater and it was well-lit and then lightly dimmed once the movie started. Speakers were in the corners and the sound was at a pleasant volume and enjoyable to listen to. The audio for the advertisements and commercials before the movie seemed louder than the actual movie itself. All walls were covered in a carpet material and several seats tiered. Also there were two exit signs on either side. | Employees seem bored and a little tired when my boyfriend Dylan handed the cashier money and they gave him change. They gave their opinions and tore off the tickets for us. They were polite. | 7:00 pm-7:20pm- People of all ages come in. Mostly teenagers and a few adults but the whole theater was packed. The movie started and young teens were talking back to the movie. There were some obnoxious eighth grade boys disrupting the movie by telling other people to “shut up” when they were talking at the screen. Rather than this solving anything, they just created more noise. People were crunching there popcorn and snacks as the silence of the movie began. There were the usual people texting and giggling occurred throughout the movie. Overall, most people seemed very comfortable with the environment. | We walk in the theater since we had arrived early. Friendly tone. Lots of people already there. We sit in the center. The back row was filled with couples because they usually make out instead of actually watch the movie. An older guy
