“ The Most Dangerous Game” In America, there are over 23 million hunters. Throughout history hunting has been a favorite pass time for America, and most of the world. To be a successful hunter, much expertise is needed. The necessary skills required, such as endurance, ability to quickly make decisions, and a sharp eye, are presented in Richard Connell’s story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” when a famous hunter, Sanger Rainsford, is stranded on a mysterious island and he uses his hunting abilities to play “the Game.” The only way for Rainsford to make it out alive is to use his impressive hunting skills. Based on Rainsford’s actions, thoughts, and the reaction of other characters, it is clear that he is an experienced hunter. First of all, Rainsford is very adventurous .In the beginning of the story. Rainsford and his friend Whitney are on a yacht that is sailing to the Amazon.They are planning to hunt jaguars as soon as they arrive, but then Rainsford falls overboard and they never reach their destination.This shows that Rainsford is willing to take on new challenges. Rainsford is also curious to find his location once he reached Ship Trap Island.Although he did not have much of a choice, he still wants and needs to figure out where he is .In addition, Zaroff states that he has read Rainsford’s book about hunting snow leopards in Tibet (pg.4). Exploring a strange location, hunting snow leopards a foreign country, and sailing to the Amazon to hunt jaguars easily shows Rainsford’s outgoing and adventurous personality. Secondly,Rainsford is also very daring, and there is plenty of evidence to show how courageous he is.For example,Rainsford is a big game hunter.this means he hunts larger and tougher animals, which takes a decent amount of bravery in itself.In addition, Rainsford has the courage to stay calm while he is being hunted by Zaroff.
