In an ad for moisturizing lotion, the following claim is made: “It’s the #1 Dermatologist recommended brand.” Have you ever bought a product that you believed was recommended by a doctor because of the advertisement? I know I have and it can be real aggregating to find that their advertisement was misleading or misused information. These advertisements can be misleading and we all have come to learn how to weed out these types of advertisements. In the following advertisement for moisturizing lotion I will explain how the advertisement misuses words to mislead customers to buy their lotion. I will explain the advertisements misleading words, and explain what kind of misuses of misrepresentation the advertisement uses. This advertisement is extremely misleading in the first sense that it uses suspect samples and misleading words. This advertisement is misleading first of all because it uses confusing words when it uses the word dermatologist instead of the plural dermatologists. With the word being used jot being plural could represent that only one dermatologist recommends the lotion. The advertiser also confuses the consumer when they used the word dermatologist instead of dermatologists because if that is just one dermatologist then this one dermatologist could be an employee of this lotion company which means he would recommend this lotion because of his ties to the company. The dermatologist could also have an investment into this lotion company and could be recommending it so he makes more money which is also misleading consumers to buy this particular lotion. The final thing about the advertisement is that the company could pay the dermatologist to recommend their product which would make it even more deceiving to consumers.
