It requires reasonable business thinking to analyze if the stock will go up or down. Hence, it needs a portion of reading the recent news about the corporation. At least, I got an overview of how the stock market work by learning new business terms like short sell, margin, options, and many more. The stock market has influence me to be careful in buying shares from corporations. Stock market can either make me more money or lose more money.
The media has an affect on all age groups from children to teenagers and young adults, and from older adults to senior citizens. The media affects society through multiple ways rather it be a book a TV show or just a normal Sunday paper. There are many different ways and opportunities for the media to influence our society through these types of media. One way society is affected because the TV and other types of media allow businesses and companies to advertise there products or company from have an add on a commercial on the TV or radio or having your add on a page in the paper or magazine. This allows businesses to influence their customers to buy from or some how use their business rather than other businesses.
Sociologists often carry out research which can influence and be used by governments to dictate social policy. Some sociologists argue that sociological research has a large impact on social policy, whilst others argue that it has little influence, and that investors and the powerful are what influences social policy. Governments are elected by the people, as such the government and other political parties want to please the voters. This means that new social policies can influence how the government is perceived and how popular it is, if a new social policy is not popular then the government will lose popularity, and therefore voters. Moreover, governments will not accept findings which go against their beliefs, this suggests that social policy is only influenced by sociological research if the research findings happen to agree with the governments view.
The word “media” can be described many different ways, in both a positive and negative light. The influence of the media and definition of the term depends on the time to which you are referring too. Our course notes describe the media as, “a term applied to public and private organizations that convey information mostly for profit but sometimes for the public good.” Several things in that statement make me raise an eyebrow. A key fact here is that the media is owned and is out to turn a profit. As we all know, any time money is involved, it can lead to greed and corruption.
Financial markets are another element in our economy which the government once again has their hands in our pockets. We discuss the stock market, buying and selling stocks in order to make a profit or a loss. If a stock does not do well, the investors will sell in order not to lose
In fact, many people believe that new media will one day replace traditional mainstream media outlets. However in this essay I will attempt to prove that New Media will not completely replace old media but rather change it, while transferring the power from governments and corporations, to the people. To do so I will start off by studying the users of new media and its audiences. I will then analyze the way it’s used. And finally explain how it has impacted mainstream traditional media, journalism and society as a
Lobbyists are supposed to be a group of people seeking to influence politicians on a specific issue. The key word in that definition is people, because lobbyists today are no longer people. They are representatives for multi-billion dollar industries and companies, and when was the last time huge corporations really knew what was best for the people? They don’t, they only know what is best for themselves. Lobbyists could be used to get voters demands to Congress after elections, but now most lobbyists are paid by large corruptions to influence lawmakers.
We used to only be able to listen to music in our own houses, and now we could have hundreds of songs being carried in our pockets, ready to play at the touch of a button. New technologies have changed the way we listen to and record music. One thing that has changed the most over many years is how people are obtaining music. We can now download music from anywhere online. One of the most
Occupy Wall Street Movement Assignment 1: Occupy Wall Street Movement The Occupy Wall Street movement initially began on September 17, 2011. This movement began as a demonstration “against the influence of corporate money in politics, but participants also say they are upset about what they see as corporate greed, and, financial and social inequality.” (Haidt, 2012) One of the largest moral implications of the movement was that in terms of democracy. Most people know that the democracy and rights are controlled largely by money, not the people within said democracy. People who participated in the OWS movement knew if there was to be any change in the way the con try is controlled, and ran, then we need to stop looking at the dollars
The problem with this scheme is that it works by stifling innovation and competition. The wealthy stay wealthy by extracting value instead of creating it. The more value they extract, the more laws they write protecting the rights and privileges of the extractors. As companies like General Electric realized, it was better to sell off productive assets and become more like a bank. The system was created for people who have money to make money.
