Fear can cause people to act weird like lying to protect themselves. In the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller it talks about a town called Salem how everyone in this town had a fear of the devil. Fear did not just affect in a book fear takes places back in history. Back in the 1920s Adolf Hitler caused fear towards Jewish people believing in their religion. Fear impacted the play The Crucible and Jewish people. To start off Fear impacted the play The Crucible. John Proctor wanted Mary Warren to tell the court Abigail is a liar. Mary says “she’ll kill me for sayin’ that! Abby’ll charge lechery on you Mr. Proctor”(Act 2, pg 85). This quote shows how Mary doesn't want to tell the court because she thinks Abigail will kill her.This shows how fear is taking place in this quote. An outside source that states fear on jewish people toward Hitler is “The fear, deception and hyper-vigilance required to avoid capture. This quote states how jewish people were afraid to reveal their own identity.Fear impacted The Crucible and jewish people because they were feared on being caught and death. Another way The Crucible caused fear was when Abigail threaten the girls when they wanted to tell the court they danced in the woods. Abigail says “ if anyone breathe a word or the edge of a word about the other things, I will come to you in the black of some terrible night, and I will bring with me a pointy reckoning that will shudder you!” The girls feared Abigail will kill them all if they told the court.
