Locating and Integrating State Laws and Ethical Codes The mission of the American Counseling Association is to enhance the quality of life in society by promoting the development of professional counselors, advancing the counseling profession, and using the profession and practice of counseling to promote respect for human dignity and diversity (American Counseling Association, 2005). The website associated with the American Counseling Association (ACA) is www.counseling.org. This particular web page include an ethics tab, in which the most up-to-date publication of the ethics code is present. The most current publication year is that of 2005. In addition to the availability of the ethics tab, there is also a search box for easier access. Once I went to the search box and typed in "state laws and ethical codes", many research options appeared. Through this assignment, it became clear that the ACA Code of Ethics are a set of universal codes to be utilized by all professionals in the counseling genre. ACA members work in a variety of settings ans servin in multiple capacities. They are also devoted to enhancing human development throughout the life span. Mental health counseling professionals have an additional set of ethical guidelines to use. Using the same technique for accessing the ACA’s website, the American Mental Health Counselors Association’s (AMHCA) website was also located. The website is www.amhca.org. AMHCA was founded in 1976 by a group of community mental health, community agency, and private practice counselors for new inspiring mental health counselors (American Mental Health Counselor Association, 2012). The Counsil for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), adopted and adapted to the training standards of AMHCA in 1988 when it established the first set of accreditations for the Masters
